hi everyone,
I'm following the steps to migrate to QBO from Desktop for Mac. I created an export in QB for Windows as instructed, now it tells me to open that in Windows. How do I do that if I don't have a PC? Help?
thank you, Just trying to do my job the Mac way!
Liza
I've got the steps in migrating your Desktop for Mac file, liza.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2019 or older, you'll really need access to a PC to complete the migration. However, if you have QBDT version 2020 and later, you can proceed to the steps provided below:
Take note that if your file has more than 350,000 targets, you'll need to condense your file.
Your migration has started. Your QBDT data will replace any data already entered in QBO.
After you move your data to QBO

hi both! Thanks for the info. I am on Quickbooks 2021 for Mac.
Unfortunately, none of the prompts seem to match the instructions provided above...
> QBDT, Export to QBO is not in the Company menu. There is an option to export to QBO under File > Export, but when I do that, it sends me to the same instructions as you've provided, with no other information, no prompt to Get Started, etc.
> When I attempt to Upgrade my QBDT to the latest version of QB, I am sent to a page for QBO, there appears to be no upgrade available for QBDT for Mac?
> When I open up my QBO account and go to the company I want to export into, there's an option to import desktop data and it gives me these instructions (screen shot attached). There is no Continue button or Get Started, no place to drop and drag or upload data... Basically, the page seems to be a dead end with an instructional video which only pertains to a version of Quickbooks that doesn't correspond to QBDT for Mac 2021.
Thoughts?
Thanks for sharing us updates on your migration experience, Lizaluuu1.
We'd like to verify what QuickBooks product you're using. We can see a QuickBooks Desktop Windows based on the screenshot provided. Are you using QBDT for Windows or QBDT for Mac?
Usually, you should be able to migrate your data following the steps provided by my colleague if you have a QBDT for Mac.
Any additional information is greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to your response.
Hi there - it is QBDT for Mac, I don't have a PC... that screen shot is from a web page that I'm sent to when I click in QBDT for MAc.
Anyway, I solved the issue by using the online tool for migrating, which is supposed to be for QBDT for 2017 and before. Good news, it worked!
thanks all!
