I upgraded from win 7 to win 10 and purchased qb 2020. I need to move data such as customer list to the new computer with win 10 64 bit. How do I do that?
If all you want to move are lists you will have to open your existing company in your existing QB2014 (assuming you installed the new alongside and did not accept the default which overwrites the software)
Why don't you want to keep all your data and just open your 2014 company in 2020? Sometimes 6 years is too long a gap but if you purchased your 2020 directly from Intuit it has been reported that they will convert your company file fro free if it cannot be done directly in the software.
My qb 2014 is on a computer with win 7 32 bit and my qb 2020 is on a new computer with win 10 64 bit. Will Intuit convert my 2014 from old computer to the new?
Also, thanks for your response.
Try open your data file on new QB 2020. In our experience, we could open QB 2013 data file on QB 2020 without any issue.
win 7 and 2014 is on the old computer and win 10 and 2020 is on the new computer. my problem is to get the company data to win 10 and 2020.
Thanks for your response.
Create a backup copy (QBB file) on your old machine, move it to a new folder on your new machine, open your QB 2020 and restore it.
Godd luck!
I will do that tomorrow. Sounds like it would work.
Will let you know as soon as done.
Thanks again.
Do you know if there is a way to selectively move data in my situation. I seem to recall in talking to Intuit, they told me it was possible.
Thanks
You can migrate List data with IIF
But you will need a 3rd party tool to migrate some transaction types
Hi @RoyD1,
Allow me to join this thread and provide insight on your query.
Since you only want to move customer lists and such, I suggest you follow the steps below. I'll be assuming at this point that you've created a new company file on your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020.
See this article for the complete process: Export lists from the old company file into a new data file.
If you have other questions about the IIF file, keep this article for reference: Export, import, and edit IIF files. The complete steps to export, import, and edit these files.
Place a comment below if you have other questions. I'll be sure to get back to you.
