New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

I relied heavily on the unified Reminders pane in QB Desktop for Accountants. I need one simplified view of overdue & upcoming: Invoices, Bills, Memorized Transactions, Checks to Print. I've been using QBO all day and I cannot find this, and searching Intuit online help/community did not turn up an answer for me. It seems that I have to load a whole bunch of screens one at a time to see what needs my attention! Is there not something I can add to the Dashboard that would be similar to the Reminders in Desktop? I'm sure I have missed a setting somewhere, or am staring at the reminders without seeing them. I cannot figure out, when I log into my own (Pro Advisor) or a client's company, how to see quickly what I need to take care of. Thanks for bearing with me on QBO Level 101.

ANSWER:

I spoke with phone & screensharing support today and was told that when you are using the flavor of QBO Accountant that comes with a Pro Advisor profile, the Tasks feature is not included. I guess you need to have a separately subscribed Accountant license to use Tasks.

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

Welcome to the Community, Kazsnafix.

You've reached the right place for assistance with QuickBooks. I'm happy to provide some info about reminders in your Online account.

At this time there isn't a reminder feature in QuickBooks Online. I can certainly see how this would be a beneficial tool to have. You may consider submitting feedback to the Product Development Team for review. This can be done directly through your QuickBooks Online account by clicking the Gear icon in the top right corner, then select Feedback. This is the best way to voice your suggestions as many product updates and feature releases come directly from these user entries.

In the meantime, I recommend checking out available third-party apps for task management. These apps integrate directly with your QBO account to help make your job a little easier. You can view them by clicking the Apps tab in the left navigation panel of your account.

Please don't hesitate to drop a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

Thanks for your response, MorganB. I don't see any apps that do what I'm looking for, I searched on "Reminders" and "Calendar". So now I have put a folder of QBO bookmarks on my browser bar, for myself to visit these screens every day I log in, to see what I have to take care of:

- +New/Print Checks

- Sales/Invoices/Unpaid filter

- Expenses/Bills/Unpaid

- Gear icon/Recurring transactions

It's really hard to understand how in a productivity app there is not a unified view of things requiring my attention. I find Desktop so much more efficient, with the ability to have different windows open at the same time, almost completely keystroke-driven if you learn the shortcuts, etc. I've spent all day taking care of what I could have done literally in 1/2 hour in Desktop ... but here I am in QBO. I expect I'll get a little faster but for old-school Windows apps users, the Online version just feels like a toy for micro-businesses. Sorry to be so grumpy, today was a money loser for me which is certainly not supposed to be the point of a bookkeping app

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

I appreciate you for returning to this thread, @Kazsnafix

Although QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't have the reminders feature like in the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I can suggest an alternative closer to your specifications.

When you choose to log in to your client's company, you can consider utilizing the Tasks feature in QBO to see overdue and upcoming invoices and bills. Depending on which experience your client is, you can see from the Tasks section or page the overdue and upcoming invoices and bills. You can also see reminders for certain types of recurring transactions in this feature.

Here's how you can utilize the feature if it's within the new Home experience:

  1. Select Go to QuickBooks in your ProAdvisor account and select your client's company.
  2. Go to Dashboard in your clients QBO company.
  3. Select Customize layout. Then, Add or remove widgets.
  4. Ensure that Tasks is placed with a checkmark.
  5. Scroll down and find the Tasks section. Then, move it around to place the section somewhere more visible.
  6. Hit Save.

If you're in the old experience, simply select Tasks in the left navigation panel. I've attached a screenshot for visual reference.

As for the Print Checks, you will have to manually check for this one.

In QBO, you can save time on tracking and recording receipts from vendors. Let me add this article as a future reference: Upload your receipts to QuickBooks Online

Keep us posted if you need further assistance navigating QBO's Tasks feature. We'll do our best to assist.

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

Thank you, AlverMarkT -- it's helpful to know that a Tasks widget exists when working in clients' books. I am working in my own company's books (the feature that's packaged up with my Pro Advisor account). I am seasoned with QB Desktop but new to QBO, so I really don't know what "experience" you're talking about and don't see where I would change it in my interface. Looks pretty different than both of your screenshots -- for example my left sidebar is a light grey not black. On my Dashboard there are four top-nav choices:

  • Get things done -- looks a lot like the Desktop "Home" screen
  • Business overview -- here's where widgets can be customized
  • Cash flow
  • Planner

But in the list of widgets there is no Tasks option. Am I looking in the right place? --

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

Hi there, Kazsnafix.

I understand that you may be unfamiliar with the QuickBooks Online (QBO) dashboard. Let me guide you on how to locate the Task option.

You're on the right track! To find the Task option, simply hover your mouse and scroll down until you can see it. If you need a better view of the screen, you can minimize it by holding the "Ctrl" key and pressing the "-" sign simultaneously on your keyboard. Or you can hold the "Ctrl" key, and then scroll down. Then drag down the scroll bar located in the right corner. Once you find the task widget check the box and save your changes.

Here's a photo as your reference:

Moreover, since you have mentioned that your left navigation panel appears light grey instead of black. On your Dashboard, and see four top-navigation options, you might be using a ProAdvisor account.

Rest assured you can still create custom tasks to stay on top of your company's management needs in ProAdvisor. To get started, simply navigate to the Tasks page located in your left navigation panel. I have included a screenshot below for your reference.

For more detailed steps, on how to create and review task, you can view this article: Add and review tasks for your team in QuickBooks Online Advanced

If the issue persists, I recommend try signing in to your QBO account using a private browser or "incognito" mode, also, clearing your browser's cache and refresh website preferences. You can also switch to a different supported browser.

I've also added an article to help you get to know your Home Dashboard in QuickBooks Online: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online

Feel free to reach back out with other questions regarding the Task widget or any QuickBooks Online-related questions. We'd be glad to assist!

New to QBO, where are the Reminders I had in Desktop?

Thanks for trying ShaniamarieC but I can promise you there is no "Tasks" item in my left-hand menu under Your Books. (Yes, I am working on my own company's books in my Pro Advisor account, so it says Accountant in the top left corner.)

This is what my left menu looks like. When I click on the pencil for customizing that menu, there is no Tasks choice available. When I go to Dashboards/Business Overview there are widgets available but no Tasks widget.

I am completely stumped why my account looks totally different from everyone else's. I read somewhere about toggle the view but the option is not available in my gear menu. I feel like I've missed something big in my setup.

I appreciate your efforts in locating the task menu, Kazsnafix. Let me direct you with the right support to investigate this thoroughly.

Usually, the Tasks menu is accessible if you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO) Accountant or Advanced versions. Since you're still unable to locate it with your company file, I suggest contacting our Live Support Experts. They have the tools to initiate a screen-sharing to review your account and determine the cause of this issue. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the ? Help button at the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Search tab, then select Contact Us.
  4. Enter a brief discussion about your concern, then click Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us.

You can also see this article for more details, and be sure to check their support hours to know when agents are available: Contact QuickBooks Online Accountant and ProAdvisor Support.

In addition, you can visit this article to learn more about handling your client requests, projects, and tasks using the Work tab: Manage and track your work with client requests, projects, and tasks in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

You can count on me to provide further related resources and details regarding your QBOA account. Kindly comment with any questions you may have, and we'll ensure a prompt response.
