Online store customers vs. wholesale customers in QBO

If I sell through my own Shopify site (retail) and also through other 3rd party resellers and distributors (wholesale), what is your recommendation for recording the customer name/information in Quickbooks? Should my Shopify site just be a single Customer in QB Online and then the 3rd party resellers/distributers be other customers? So, even if I have thousands of individual consumers buying through my Shopify website, you would never have a record of them in QB Online? Or do you send every individual customer name, address, etc... from Shopify to QB Online? Thank you for your advice.

Online store customers vs. wholesale customers in QBO

Hi and good day, srockfeld1.

You can add them as customer and then use the class tracking feature to classify the transactions by departments, product lines, or any other segments in your business.

You can enable the feature by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear > Account and Settings.
  2. On the left panel, select Advanced.
  3. Select Categories to expand and put a check mark on the Track classes box.
  4. Click Save and then Done.

I'd also recommend consulting with your accountant for any advice about tracking these customers.

I'm sharing these articles for your reference:

I'll be around if you have any additional questions or other concerns. Take care and stay safe.

@srockfeld1

I would consider using an inventory management app as the central node to integrate with QBO. Shopify for B2C and it integrates to an inventory management app with a feature of B2B portal for resellers.

Thank you. Do classes work with an inventory app so I could sync customers from my eCommerce store differently than my wholesale customers? thnx!

I'm glad to see you here in Community, @srockfeld1.

Yes, classes work with an Inventory app but first make sure to turn on the class tracking feature in your QuickBooks Online.

To turn on this feature, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon then under Your Company select Accounts and settings.
  2. On the Accounts and setting page choose Advanced.
  3. On the Categories, click on Track classes then click Save.

To know more about Inventory App, click on this link: Do More with Apps: Inventory by erplain.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. I'll be happy to assist you further.

You might want to try SKUSavvy for this task since it will connect with your Shopify store to bring over locations, products, inventory, customers, and orders then enable you to track inventory, manage inbound orders, visually create a warehouse layout, and pick-pack-ship orders.

Everything is updated back to your Shopify account which is connected to Quickbooks.
