open company file with a corupt back up copy or using the QBW.ADR file.

My mother board went out. I have a new computer, installed new download of quick book pro 2017 from site. I have used backup versions of 3 companies.  I have my most important company back up  in from 2017 but my back up copy from Oct 2018 is corupt.  I use carbonite as my back up for my computer files. I have some files dated 2/22/19  for this company but they have extensions of QBW.ADR.ADR  I read an article  online ( quick books) that said  you can use this type file to open company.  can anyone guide me?  Or do you know how to use my corupt back up file?

You might be able to repair a corrupt file but I would have preferred recovering the most recent regular data file (^.qbw) from the hard drive in the dead computer. Just because the motherboard died does not mean the hard drive is unable to be used outside of that computer

Were you able to recover your files with the Carbonite ADR file?  I am having the same issue and would appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance!

I can help you with recovering those files to continue working with your account, @farmmom.

You can reach Carbonite's customer support to get a .qbb company file. Then, ask them how to move that file to your local hard drive.

Once done, you can now restore the .qbb file. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and click Next.
  3. Choose Local backup and click Next. The Open Backup Copy window opens.
  4. Select the backup file and click Open and then Next.
  5. Click on Save once you're done.

The company file is now converted to a regular company file with a .qbw extension.

For more information about restoring your backup file, check this reference: Restore a backup of your company file.

Thanks everyone.  I was able to recover my files.  I needed to go back to an older quickbooks version and was successful.

Thanks again!

Thank you!  I realized I needed to use an older Quickbooks file (as this was an older company I hadn't used in a while!)

Thanks again.
