I am running Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018. Until a week ago I was printing everything on a HP 8610 which worked wonderfully. I had no problem printing the remaining 1 or 2 checks on a sheet with that printer but sadly the printhead died a horrible death. I purchased a HP 8702 thinking it would work as well or even better than the 8610. Wrong!! It will not print a single check - only a complete sheet of 3. Now looking back through posts here and elsewhere it is a well known HP problem with no easy fix other than using form leaders for the check. My post is to possibly get suggestions for a current printer that you love and does everything my old 8610 did - mainly one that will print 1 or 2 checks with no problem. Thanks in advance.
Hello, @TheShawMom.
Thanks for sharing and letting me know your experience when printing checks on your HP 8702. Let me help share a few things about printing checks in QuickBooks.
The printer you purchased should be able to work fine if it's loaded with check compatible with QuickBooks. However, if you're already using compatible checks, then it's possible that there's a problem connecting to your currently selected printer.
You can check out this article for the troubleshooting steps you'll need to perform in resolving printing issues: Resolve printing issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'd also encourage contacting your IT person or the printer manufacturer's tech support for assistance.
Do let me know how it goes. I'll be here to help further if you keep having a printing issue with your printer. Best Regards.
I do appreciate your reply - but it is definitely a printer issue. Since I recognized the problem I have researched a variety of forums. People have contacted HP and they assure everyone that it must be a Quickbooks problem - it is not. From what I read, this new printer won't accept a partial sheet less than 5" in length (a single check with bottom tab is 4"). I have tried all of the fixes I have seen - creating a custom paper size, etc. but it doesn't feed through. When you search on "HP 8702 problems printing single check" you find it is a widespread problem with this series of HP printer. Also, I do not have an IT person (wish I did) - it is just me and I have been working with QB for approx. 15 years at all of my 3 jobs. Once again, thanks for your reply.

I am having the same issue as The ShawMom. My printer is the HP OfficeJet Pro Premier. I cannot print a single check -- the last one left on my sheet of three. Charles M. referred to a workaround that seems to work. I missed what that workaround is. Charles, could you share that? Thanks. SJ
I am having the same issue with my HP OfficeJet Pro Premier -- not printing a single check from a 3 check sheet. Charles_M mentions a workaround. I missed that. Could someone share that again? Thanks, SJ50
Hi there, SJ50.
Welcome back to QuickBooks Community. I'll share some steps to ensure you're able to print checks properly.
The workaround Charies_M gave is referring to the information discussed by TheShawMom. I'll share other troubleshooting steps to resolve an issue in printing a single check. Before that, you'll need to ensure your QuickBooks is updated to the latest release and your computer is connected to the printer, and that the printer software is installed. Then, follow the steps below.
First, you'll have to your printer if this can print outside of QuickBooks, Here's how:
If that didn't work, please follow the steps below.
If the issue persists, please click this article to see another troubleshooting instruction to fix the printing issue and start following step three: Resolve printing issues.
Please refer to this article to view steps on how you can Delete or void a check and how to create a user role to write checks without seeing confidential information: Create, modify, and print checks.
