Products and Services

Hi,

We have Quickbooks advance, and I am trying to activate the inventory tracker so that I can upload inventory items.

I have followed the instructions:

 - Go to settings

 - Select account and settings

 - Select sales tab

 - Edit Products and Services

however I only have three lines there

 - Show Product/Service column on sales forms
 - Show SKU column

 - Track quantity and price/rate

It does not show

 - Turn on price rules

 - Track inventory quantity on hand

We had commerce, but deactivated it. Could it be because of this?

Please help

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Evo Nicole USA. I also appreciate you for performing some steps to achieve your goal. With this, I'll be sharing details on how activating the Inventory and Price rule features works in QuickBooks and ensure you'll be able to see this option in the system.

Turning on the Inventory feature to start setting up and tracking your items in QuickBooks Online is only available in the Plus and Advanced versions. Based on the screenshot you've provided, it seems you're using the Online Essential and not the Quickbooks advanced. However, to verify this one, you can check the subscription you're utilizing by going to the Account and settings.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and choose Account and settings.
  3. Click the Billing & Subscription section. From there, you'll be able to see the version at the top of the box.

Once verified that you're using the Essential, I suggest upgrading your QuickBooks subscription to Plus or Advanced so you can use the Inventory and Price rules feature. After that, you can click each article below to view details on how you can track your inventory and set pricing rules for specific products and services.

If you're already operating the Advanced version but still unable to see the said features, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see different details on how the four-item types in QB help you categorize the products and services for better tracking: Change product and service item types in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if there's anything else you need help with or additional concern about tracking inventory in QBO. I'm always here to help you anytime. Take care and keep safe!
