Hello I am a reseller of products that I purchase by the case and sell by the each (for the most part) I use QB desktop but am considering going to the online version just to make things a little bit more accessible for myself. I do not assemble anything, all items come complete.
I have two questions.
It is my understanding that in QB premier desktop there is a way to purchase by the case and QB will convert it to "each" for inventory and sales purposes so that I do not have to confuse my manufacturer who sells by the case. If so, how does that work? Also, is there the same feature on QB online and if so, which version? Any other recommendations?
Thank you
Yes, @Yoshicar.
QuickBooks Desktop has a feature called inventory assembly that allows you to choose the unit of measure per item. Let me guide you how.
You can create an item and use "each" as your base unit and "case" as your related unit. To do so, please refer to the steps below.
I've added some screenshots below.
Once done, you'll see "each" as the unit of measure whenever you use this inventory item and "case" if you purchase it. For more information about inventory assembly, please see this article: Track the products you manufacture.
As with your second concern, QuickBooks Online is unable to track inventory assemblies. However, you can use a third-party provider that is compatible with QBO to help you track and record inventory assemblies. Please visit our page for the available list https://apps.intuit.com/.
Let me know if there's anything else you need help with. I'd be happy to help you some more. Thanks for posting and more power to your business.
Thank you so much for your kind response. This does not apply to the version of QB that I am running it seems. That is part of my question. Does QB online offer that option, if so, which version? I do not assemble or manufacture anything so I am not worried about that part.
I'd like to share some steps, Yoshicar.
Before doing so, let's make sure to click on this link to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
Then, follow these steps to enable the Unit of Measure and inventory in the settings of your QuickBooks Desktop Premier:
Please see the sample screenshot below:
Once done, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague ShiellaGraceA. She also mentioned the option is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.
When you subscribed to QuickBooks Online, you'll want to look for a third-party application that has similar functionalities. Just visit our website here: https://apps.intuit.com/.
If you need anything else, please let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks.
