Literally yesterday my 2022 Accountant version desktop started crashing during backup. I tried several things and read as much of this blog as possible. Nothing worked. It only crashes during backups. It starts the backup, gets to 99% and then Quickbooks disappears and the backup remains in unfinished mode.
From what I read this problem has not been solved. I don't have time and money to try and solve this problem. Thankfully it is only during backups that this crashes. No idea why it started yesterday. I have not updated anything and my last backup was only 3 days before. So I had only entered a few transactions since then. So after spending over an hour trying to fix this myself last night, today I restored the 3 day old backup and re-entered the few transactions that were missing. Did a backup and it worked. So something in the company file since 2/3/23 has gone wrong and I think it is a Quickbooks issue since so many people with different computers are having the same problem. Thankfully I hope this never reoccurs. I will be updating to 2023 soon and hope this problem doesn't resurface. Disappointed to hear that Quickbooks has not fixed this problem.
You are lucky so far, mine has been crashing (shutting down) since i started 2022. The consensus is QB wants to turn everyone to online programing. They are well aware of the problem and tell you to call support, i've spent hours on the phone with them to no avail. All wasted time. Mine usually crashes when i am going to print anything, reports, checks, deposit slips, etc... have to restart the program and then it works for a little while. You never know when it's going to happen so be aware now that's it happening to you. I would wait on 2023 until you know the issue has been resolved. Keep a watchful eye on posts regarding this.

I have upgraded to 2023 about a month ago and QB is crashing on me when I am in the "Add/Edit Multiple List Entries" section. I am reorganizing how our inventory is set up and uniting the new category section and it keeps crashing. It has happened about 8 times between 5 am and 10 am.
HELP!
I appreciate you sharing the complete details of your concern, @Apeface. I’m here to offer my assistance to keep your account from crashing/freezing up.
Before anything else, this certainly isn't the experience I want you to have, but I need to ensure I have the exact information on the issue. Can you share what error message you received? Additional details would be much appreciated, such as screenshots. To help me isolate the issue, and provide the best solution.
In the meantime, let's make sure that you have updated QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes. After that, let's open your company file with a different QBDT user.
Here's how:
If the new user doesn't resolve the issue, let's create a new Windows admin. If you're using Windows 10 and newer, here's how:

My software is up to date. I do not get any error messages. It just crashes when I try to use this module.
My QB software is up to date. I do not get any error messages. When I try to sort by any category, it clocks and then closes.
Hello there, Apeface.
Let's run the Quick Fix my Program tool to get your QuickBooks working back to normal. I'm here to help ensure the process is a breeze for you.

Keep in touch if you need further assistance navigating the desktop program or have questions about adding lists or items to the company file. I'll jump right back in to help you.
I did that prior to finding this thread as well. That did not help. So what happens is when i open the "add/edit multiple list entries" I click to sort by category and it shows the hourglass icon, freezes for about 30 seconds, and then closes. Every single time. I am cleaning up our inventory lists and sorting and need to use custom columns to see what is in and what I need to fix. I am using enterprise solutions professional services 23.0
Are you sure you can upgrade to 2023 version. I received notification from QB that 2022 desktop version will no longer be supported after 5/31/2023 . They are trying to force everyone to convert to the online version which is very expensive. I run a small company with all part time employees. The online version will cost $30.00 per month for the accounting part and then another $27.00 per month for payroll plus $5.00 per employee each month. I have 60 part time drivers (school transportation). Total cost $4000.00 + for the year. Plus i have a secondary company i use QB for with only 4 employees. I will need another subscription for that company as well. This is really outrageous. I am looking for an alternative program, but i've been using QB for almost 20 years. I hate to have to learn a new program.
We just purchased the 23 Desktop version about a month ago. I don't see them ever getting rid of the Desktop version as it has its own benefits and features Online cannot do. Not sure why they would let us buy it if it wasn't going to be an option as of May.
Regardless i am still having technical issues with this new version, with its new items categories and add/edit lists module causing my QB to crash with no error messages.
I have been using QB for 20 yrs. The desktop version has always been the more reliable option. Especially with potential internet issues.
please see my above reply
what if windows is up to date and you are still having issues?
This was not solved for me i have QB 2022 pro and it was up to date and i have tried this and several others ,not fixed i have been at my pc for 2 days now and not able to get anything done ,and QB is so hard to get a live person , I wished I never knew QB.
Thanks for getting involved with this thread, mnolandscaping.
To verify my understanding, are you encountering any error messages when QuickBooks crashes?
Windows 10 v1809, v1903, and v1909 were all updated by Microsoft in April 2020 to resolve this issue with QuickBooks crashing.
You'll initially want to confirm your version of Windows is up-to-date with Microsoft's latest releases.
Here's how:
If Microsoft updates need to be installed, you'll want to install them:
If you're able to keep QuickBooks open long enough without it crashing, I'd also recommend confirming your books are up-to-date with our latest release.
In the event QuickBooks continues crashing while you have all of your necessary updates, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team and reference the investigation's case number (INV-24741). They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and reopen the investigation or create a new one if necessary.
I've also included a detailed resource about QuickBooks crashing which may come in handy moving forward: While working in QuickBooks, QuickBooks closes unexpectedly (crashes with or without an error)
If there's any questions or additional information you'd like to provide, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome Tuesday!
My windows version is Windows 11 Pro version 22H2 (up to date as of today @ 10:30am). I already downloaded the software update of the QB program last week. This has been an ongoing issue for the past year with my QB 2022 Pro version. No error messages nothing to warn that it is closing down, It just hangs with the cursor spinning then "poof" it's gone. I have to reopen the program to continue working. Most times it shuts down when i try to email pay stubs to our employees or when I am trying to print checks. I have made several calls to your customer service reps but I don't have hours to try to pinpoint issues. One Rep didn't know as much as I do about the program, i've been using it for almost 20 years. He was thumbing through some pages when i was explaining what was happening then gave me a few things to try which did nothing. I did use the QB Desktop File Doctor several times and i use the QB tool hub very often, especially when the shut downs are more frequent.
We just upgraded to 2023 and have had some issues. The latest is QB closing "WITHOUT" warning.
QB TEAM - DO NOT REPLY WITH A TEMPLATED RESPONSE! All of your 20+ year customers already know what you keep repeating. Save it, please.
There is no particular transaction that seems to cause it. This seems very random and VERY FRUSTRATING!

After numerous attempts to fix the crashing issue with my Desktop 2023 version, I finally see people having the same issue as mine. I spent over 7 hours with tech support in the past three months and no one knows about this issue (or pretend that they don't know it). It's so frustrating, I've been a customer for over 25 years and QB can't offer a 2nd level support to fix more serious issues. They have increased the prices of their products but forgot to provide decent customer support. Today I literally lost patience with TS who was trying to assist me because she simply behaved as if I'm the only one having this issue, I'm glad to find out that my computer or Microsoft isn't the villain of this situation.
Hi there, limaclub.
I heard your sentiments regarding the crashing issue with your QuickBooks Desktop(QBDT). In this, let me point you in the right direction to ensure you get back to business.
That said, I suggest getting in touch with our Customer Care Team. This way, they'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate the issue.
You can follow the steps I provided above.
Keep your post coming if you need further assistance. I'm always here to help.
Totally agree. Both of my jobs are talking about finding another solution outside of Quickbooks. Overall its an ok program. But when you call customer service, you never know if the person you get knows what they are doing. I have had tech support mess up our systems. Not one rep is created equal. Its a dice roll to see if you get someone who can comprehend what the issues are and how to fix them or do what is necessary to get them fixed.
I have not been able to use the add/edit multiple list entries under our inventory still. It's a feature I really need. We pay too much for this software for it to be junk and lack in customer service and REAL tech support that doesn't point you to our own computer tech guy.
Besides this issue. I also have to restart QuickBooks often because icons just disappear. like the save/close save/new buttons. I give QB 3 starts out of 10.
I have been using QB since 2006. This is very disappointing. I gave up on getting this issue fixed.
Hello, @Apeface. I understand your frustration with this situation. I'll make sure that this will be taken care of.
I'd like to ask for some details about why you can't use add/edit multiple list entries.
In regards to the QuickBooks icon and some buttons disappearing, we can run a QuickBooks repair to ensure that the software and your files are free from any potential damage. It fixes common errors right away. Then, you can run verification and rebuild to fix data issues. I'll show you the step-by-step process.
These are the steps to repair QuickBooks:
Once done, you can update your QuickBooks to the latest release. This guarantees you have the most recent fixes and security updates. Then, let's run verify and rebuild data.
Please don't hesitate to leave a reply below if you have any other concerns about managing your QuickBooks account. I'm always here, ready to lend a hand. Have a good one, and stay safe.
