qb desktop accountant edition 2020

Beginning this week, I can no longer print pdfs from within QuickBooks and I can no longer send an email through Outlook from within QB.   For example: My quarterly payroll forms will open as pdfs and I can view them but when I click the "print pdf" button, nothing happens and then I can't open any pdfs within any software or on their own without restarting my computer.  I keep making Windows and  QB search for updates thinking a fix is coming, but nothing.  I really want to avoid un-installing and re-installing...please help.

Welcome to the Community, @LANDYRAY. Let's get past this printing and email issues together.

We can edit your email preferences and ensure that the Outlook is selected, then let's run the Print Repair tool to resolve printing issues.

Before doing so, I'd recommend updating the software to the latest release. Then, proceed to the basic troubleshooting steps below.

Here's how to edit your email preferences:

  1.  Open and sign-in to Outlook.
  2. Choose the Edit menu and then pick Preferences.
  3. Select Send Forms from the menu, then go to My Preferences tab.
  4. Choose Outlook as your email option.
  5. Hit OK.

Once done, send a test email from QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Edit menu, then locate Preferences.
  2. Select Send Forms from the menu and find the My Preferences tab.
  3. Choose QuickBooks E-mail or Web-mail, then hit OK
  4. Repeat the steps and locate My Preferences tab, then select Outlook
  5. Select OK.

Close QuickBooks and all other open programs, then restart your computer. Check out this article for further instructions: How to fix Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email

Here's how to run the QuickBooks PDF and Print Repair Tool to resolve printing issue:

  1. Close QuickBooks first, then download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file and save it somewhere you can easily find.
  2. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe), then follow the on-screen steps to install.
  3. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub, then select Program Problems.
  4. Select the QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool.
  5. Print the payroll form again.

Just in case, here's an article with other troubleshooting steps in resolving printing issues: Troubleshoot PDF and printing problems with QuickBooks Desktop. It contains links with complete instructions on how to perform a solution.
