I've come to share details about migrating your company files from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Premier to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @CashFlowDoctor. This way, you can manage your data accordingly.

You're able to migrate your QBDT file to QBO regardless if you're subscribed or utilizing the trial version of the software. You just need to make sure the QBDT Premier (trial) version you're using is still supported (i.e., 2020 or 2021) and has the program's latest release.

Before you migrate, please know what to expect when you move files from QBDT to QBO. Then, once you're ready, you can refer to the steps below:

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you need to import.
  2. Go to the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Select Start your export.
  4. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  5. If you track inventory in QuickBooks Desktop, select Yes to bring them over or No if you want to set up new items.
  6. Select the Choose online company drop-down, and choose the QuickBooks Online company you want to be replaced by your company file.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Enter “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
  9. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Also, I'm adding this article to get answers to the most commonly asked questions about converting your account from QBDT to QBO: FAQs about migrating from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. It includes topics about what's an online account and syncing data, to name a few.

Let me know if you have other migration concerns or inquiries about managing your QuickBooks company file. I'm just around to help. Take care always.

QBD Pro and Premier are using the same file structure as long as on the same year version. You won't convert anything.

Yes, QuickBooks Premier is different from the Pro Plus version, CashFlowDoctor.

QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Premier are simply two versions of the same core application.

QuickBooks Premier offers multiple, industry-specific versions. It supports up to five simultaneous users and is a good fit for those that need a good inventory/sales order management option.

While QuickBooks Pro is a great entry-level small business accounting application. And, it's an ideal solution for sole proprietors and small business owners. It also supports up to three simultaneous users.

Check out this link to learn what features are available for each version: Choose your QuickBooks Desktop product.

Additionally, you can open an existing Premier file in the Pro Plus version and vice versa. I'm adding this link to learn more about this: Company files compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop when upgrading.

Before making any changes to your file, always create a backup so you can go back and open the original file.

If you have to open a new QBO account, make sure to click the Buy button to get the discounted price for up to 3 months. If you purchase from the Trial account, you have to pay the regular rate.

Thank you!!!

They keep shoving the online version down our throats and seem to hide these kind of comparisons.

Greatly appreciated.
