Join nowIn February I contacted support and I was talked into upgrading my older desktop version, with a lifetime license, to QB Desktop Pro 2021. The license I was provided has expired. It says: "QuickBooks Desktop has expired. To continue using, Quickbooks Desktop, you must buy QuickBooks Desktop now." After clicking the "Buy QuickBooks" button another window popped up saying "Unfortunately, we do not support unlocking for a multi-user edition of QuickBooks". I am now completely locked out from 25+ years of QB records and accounts. I have always only had one computer and I'm a single-user. I've never been a multi-user.
I cannot go back to the older version, with its "lifetime" license, because the company file was changed to work with this newer version. How do I fix this? I do not know why the license I was given expired. I would like to buy a single-user permanent license for the desktop version. How can I do that?

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @Schliebco.
I'm happy to provide further clarification regarding the availability of a single-user, permanent license for QuickBooks Desktop Pro.
Starting from the QuickBooks Desktop 2023 versions, Intuit has transitioned to a subscription-based model. This means that purchasing a subscription is the primary method for accessing and using QuickBooks Desktop software.
As a result, one-time purchases or stand-alone subscriptions for previous versions (prior to QBDT 2023) are no longer available directly from Intuit. If you are interested in obtaining a one-time purchase or stand-alone subscription for an older version of QuickBooks Desktop, you may need to explore retail stores or authorized resellers that still carry those versions.

Last February? I am not sure you were taking with an Intuit Support. Can you check your CAMPS as the Primary Admin and find your license code there?
Thank you. I will give that a try. And thank you for the links.
Fiat Lux,
I assure you it was Intuit support. I would share the email, but it contains confidential information.
Yes, I can log in and there is no license information there.
It is possible that I was given a "trial" license that expired after 6-months, but there is no mention of that in the email I received with the license, nor in Quickbooks itself. So this might all just be a misunderstanding on my part.
I will be contacting Quickbooks Desktop Support this afternoon, as suggested by GebelAlainaM.
I will post the results here after they are done with me.
I was able to get a license for the latest version of Quickbook Desktop ProPlus by talking to the support desk. They said that there was no such thing as a "single-user, permanent license", and only offered a monthly or annual subscription license. And I was charged more than what I expected, but I may have misheard the support person on the phone regarding the price.
Bottom line:
Thank you for trying to help. Please stop telling people that they can buy a single-user, permanent license. I was emphatically told that there is no such thing.
I would really like to know why you are telling people that they can buy a single-user permanent license?
When I followed your instructions to talk with the Quickbooks support desk, I was told that there is no such thing as a single-user permanent license and that the only option was to buy either a monthly or annual subscription.
Someone is lying or badly misinformed. Either way, it is a disservice to your customers to mislead them.
GebelAlainaM - I keep trying to reply directly to your post but my messages are put at the end of the thread or just randomly attached in the wrong spot in the thread. This seems very buggy.
Either you are posting incorrect information or the Quickbooks Desktop Support Desk person I talked to has misled me. Either way, I was not able to purchase a single-user, permanent license for Quickbooks Desktop Pro. I was told my only option was to upgrade to Quickbooks Desktop ProPlus 2023 and pay for a subscription. And then I was charged more than twice what I was quoted on the telephone!
I am going to spend another afternoon trying to contact the support desk to get this straightened out.
Please reply to this message and tell me how to buy this single-user, permanent license you wrote about.
Thank you

You will be very lucky to find even a used license for QBD 2021 at the moment. You can buy a new license for QBD 2023 Pro Plus and get $100 cash back if it matters. T&C apply.
