Join nowHi,
My hard drive crashed a few weeks ago. The hard drive went into a recovery company that was able to get 95% + of the data backed up. I'm trying to get back where I was at with Quickbook before that time. Meanwhile, I re-installed Quickbook and started a "new company" so I could generate invoices. Now that I have the back up files, I'm trying to get back where I was at with the "old comapny" (since I had to recreate a company to generate invoices). I followed the steps on creating a desktop file and transfer the .ADR files from the backup.
I'm not getting back where I was before the hard drive failed. Should I uninstall the "newer" version of Quickbook to get the older version working?
Hopefully it makes sense.!
Thank you for your help.
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @ChocolatenMacarons1.
The possible reason that the information that will show is not the same since you have entered the invoice before restoring the backup.
If you're referring to uninstalling the 2020 version to the older version, it isn't possible to restore the backup file if it's already the updated one.
You can create a new one, then restore the company file after enter again the invoice you recently created.

Please fill me in if you have anything else to add. I'd be glad to help you out. Stay safe and healthy.
The Auto Data Recovery (ADR) file type is not the same as a full .QBB backup files. In the instructions, it does specifically state that you will not get any data from the last 12 hours prior to its creation.
The ADR file is created approximately 1 hour after you last opened your company file, and then every 12 hours while your file is open. It saves both the recent 12 hours old and the next to last 24-hour old recovery files and then deletes the older ones. Therefore, in addition to your regular working file (and why the restore company could not provide that to you instead), there should have been 2 .ADR files to choose from, identified by timestamp being 12 hours apart. There is a distinct possibility that you restored from the 24 hour (before the crash) old file instead of the 12-hour old file., hence you could be missing 2 days of transactions easily
Thank you for your help. Here is a screenshot of the files that are backed up after the crash. There are more files as well, including .ADR and .TLG.ADR files. Do you think I can use these files to restore to an earlier version? In these files there is an April 22sd back up. If I can go back to that date, I would be happy.
I have re-installed QB 2015 on the new hard drive of the laptop. It is not the 2020 QB version. Should I uninstall it and use the file in the back up to re-install the older version?
Thank you.
It's our pleasure to help, @ChocolatenMacarons1.
Also, thank you for providing us a screenshot. For the .QBB file, you can restore that to the earlier version and latest version of QuickBooks.
Here's how to do it:

Let me know if there's anything that I can help you with. Have a great rest of the day!
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I cannot find the [mycompanyname].qbb in the backed up device. I can see other like [my company name].QBW.ND or [my company name].QBW.TLG
I will contact customer support.
Sincerely,
Karl.
I noticed you didn't mention anything about QBW file(s). Did you fail to recover any file of it?
I have QBW files recovered. Not sure if I have all of them. I have attached a screen shot.
I don't know how this happened but I got my QB back where when the hard drive crashed. Thank you everyone!!!!
