Thank you for posting here, @MBConslt.
Currently, the option to collapse sub-class from parent sub-classes when running a report is unavailable. As a workaround, you may export the report to excel and edit the columns from there. For more info, please see this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.
I can see the importance of having this option added when accessing the report by class. I’ll take note of this and send feedback to our Product Development team. Rest assured that we are bound to help you with everything we can.
Also, to be updated for new release components and features of the program, visit our Firm of the Future blog. This focuses on improving the QuickBooks user's in-product experience.
Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance or should you have any follow-up questions about managing sub-classes in QuickBooks. I’ll be here to help. Have a good one.
Has this ever been addressed. This is a big issue I would think for those who use Classes and subclasses. I just want a report with the totals by Class, no sub class detail. I just switched from desktop to online and this not being a feature is not helpful.
Thank you for sharing your feedback about QuickBooks classes and sub-classes on the report, bnode.
We consider our customer suggestions when looking for product improvements and ways to enhance QuickBooks. As of now, we are unable to give you a specific time frame as to when this option will be added in QuickBooks.
You'll want to follow the workaround suggested by my peer above to export your report to excel and add the totals from there. I would recommend visiting our blog site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features. Here's the link: The QuickBooks Blog.

Yes, but I am disappointed you cannot collapse individual sub classes. The "by class" report defaults to show all sub classes (including sub classes of sub classes of classes). When you collapse sub class, all that appears is the class, not the collapsed sub class:
Academy Class
Academics Subclass
English sub subclass
Science sub subclass
Athletics Subclass
Football sub subclass
Basketball sub subclass
I ether see seven columns (above) or one column (Academy). I would like to see three columns:
Academy Class
Academics Subclass
Athletics Subclass
This is possible with rows (for sub accounts of sub accounts).
This isn't the impression we want you to have, NickNovelly1.
You can share your feedback about the collapse feature within your QuickBooks account. This way, our developers will know what option would be beneficial to your business and might add it to any future enhancements.

Where is the gear icon on desktop?
Hi Nick.
The Gear icon is available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). For QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can access the feedback option from the Help menu. I'll guide you with the steps.
On the other hand, you can check out this link for more tips about tracking your transactions by classes in QBDT: Set up and use class tracking in QuickBooks Desktop.
For additional resources, while working with QuickBooks Desktop in the future, you can also open the topics from our help articles: Help articles, video tutorials, and more.
