This suggestion doesn't work. The bookkeeper logs in as Administrator, checks for Updates, and is presented with a window that says "You're up to date! Quickbooks XXX is currently the newest version available." The window just has an OK button.

I have the same Issue on QuickBooks 2023... It's up to date and I can not cut it off. We are a Windows user, recently installed QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2023 in a 3 user environment. The server hosts the file.
(I can't even tell you how difficult getting it to host multi user. Hours on the phone to fix that... And moved the shared directory to a place on the server we don't normally share. That's now working but I'm not happy about the new file location).
A call into the support team these days is miserable! (They can't transfer you and if you get someone who doesn't know anything about your issue, it's a pain.) I'd rather have each hair on my head pulled out individually and the have each toenail individually ripped out with a pair of pliers than to call into support. I can't take it!
Right now - I just want to cut off Automatic Updates and I don't want to call. (The support is awful these days... Nobody knows everything! So - You guys should really do something about the transfer thing or something. I've used QuickBooks since you guys started. Because of support, the now recurring annual fees along with payroll subscription and numerous issues that we can't fix ourselves... UGHHHH! (I'm pretty computer savvy.... And that is also frustrating calling support. The lady actually emailed me a written link about how to get to glance! I TOLD her the security settings were too high on the server to allow that. But she refused to answer my question without Glance... She was sure I didn't know how to type. I'm still frustrated over it. Anyway - Don't want to talk to support. Email me, or have someone who knows about this subject reach out to me.
Can you post steps how to do this? Is this bug that Intuit decided not to fix or what? When trying to turn off automatic updates in Quickbooks Desktop for Mac it is impossible since When doing Check for Quickbooks Updates under Quickbooks menu it show Quickbooks is up to date, no way to turn off automatic updates and since it is in autoupdate it will always be "Up-to-date". What good does it to talk to Support team if all they will tell customers is to migrate to cloud version. Pitiful.
I know how crucial it is for you to resolve the auto-update error, @AV2023. Let me help you fix this in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
To disable the auto-update you can turn this off by following the steps below:
If you're having issues, you can run the Verify/Rebuild tool. Verify will catch any damaged data. Rebuild will attempt to fix the damaged data detected. It also permits your QuickBooks software to restore the data inside the company file.
Furthermore, secure creating a backup copy of your company file before doing the Verify and Rebuild process. If changes occur, having a backup copy allows you to restore it to undo the changes.
You can also call our QuickBooks Desktop support team to investigate the issue: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
We are still here to guide you in handling your QuickBooks Desktop account. Let me know in the comment section.
