I started my company on Quickbooks Online 5 months ago. I would like to put my personal finances on QB also which will require another subscription, bringing my cost to almost $600 annually.
That said, I am considering buying the desktop version to use for both my company and personal finances. I would likely set up to access remotely. I assume the QB App integrates with the desktop version so I can still capture receipts etc. Or is the App only available to the Online version.
Just tossing this idea around for now, would be interested in your comments, feedback and any pitfalls to watch out for.
Thanks
QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online are 2 different worlds. By default, you have to use QuickBooks Desktop in a local are network environment. Should you need to access the data file by internet connection, a remote desktop solution is the lowest cost to do so.

You also need another 3rd party app to capture the receipt.
Hope it helps.
Indeed, QB Online and desktop are two different animals and I have had such poor experience with the online product that I won't recommend it to potential clients although I will work with it if that's what they want. I am a long-time member of the Pro Advisor program and have been fighting with QB support over remote access for many months. Some years ago, QB actually had remote access subscription capability built in, but Intuit dropped it.
My home office is net capable by DSL, but with marginal bandwidth (thanks CenturyLink). I have clients in rural areas whose bandwidth capabilities don't meet the minimum requirements based on discussions I've had with QB sales / tech. My last discussion took hours to get a call through, so I switched to chat which led to being switched from one person to another without warning in the middle of the session and finally resulted in being told that they would only offer QB Online in spite of not meeting their own standards or a remote hosting company they have a stake in which was going to cost the client an additional $60/mo again without addressing the bandwidth issue.
I am looking into a few different approaches right now. Splashtop and Teamviewer are possibilities and there's something being developed around a Chrome app that will allow some sort of remote access. There is also some remote access capability within WIN10, but I'm waiting for the May 2020 update before looking further into that.
Sadly, contact with QB on this issue has led to nothing useful; I believe that's because unless it makes them money immediately, they will deny any such knowledge. This from a company that sends me ads for helping apply for PPP loans, but offers no real help in my minimizing personal contact through remote access outside of their minimal offerings. If you've found anything useful in your search, let us know.

Chrome Remote Desktop is already available. If you only need a simple app for remote, utilize it for free.
Thanks for your reply; I will look into the Chrome app when I can coordinate that with clients.
I am also looking into Splashtop which says they offer the connection I need at a reasonable price. I am going slowly on this in part because I am trying to verify that the remote connection product offers " . . just like I was sitting there . . " experience that supports running client payroll that is a mix of direct deposit and local printing. The direct deposit is run through Intuit payroll so the session must support online handshaking with them while attached remotely. Splashtop says they can handle that and I'll be running a trial package soon to see if that's so.
When some remote connection products say they can handle file transfers, it's essentially a simple upload or download which can be handled through Dropbox, but if the client needs more, you have to check first.
Thanks again.
