Buy nowI recently upgraded to quickbooks for mac 2021. I was using 2016 version. 2021 will not do any updates. It will just say put quickbooks in your applications folder then open from there for updates. OK but that is where it is being launched from and no updates will happen.
2nd issue, if I try to create an item or edit on old item, quickbooks immediately crashes and I have to relaunch. Very frustrating.
How can I fix either issue?

Once you launch QuickBooks Mac, choose the QuickBooks->Check for Updates... menu. Apply any updates. Hopefully that fixes the crash issue.
On launch QuickBooks will open the last used company file on your system. That usually works but if you've moved to new system or moved the company file manually it might not find it. In that case choose File->Open... and navigate to your company file and select it. That will update it to 2021.
If you don't know where your old company file is use Spotlight and type .qb2016 to find all the company files created in 2016.
