Quickbooks for Mac Desktop 2020 with Ventura

Good day, Katonk

Allow me to share some information about the system requirements for QuickBooks for Mac 2020.

As of now, we haven't received any reported issues from customers that use MacOS Ventura for QuickBooks for Mac 2020. Unless the product specifications clearly say that an operating system is supported, it hasn't been evaluated yet. We can't guarantee that your experience will be trouble-free.

Listed below are the minimum system requirements for QuickBooks for Mac 2020:

  • R12 and earlier - At least macOS 10.14 (Mojave); supported by macOS 10.14 (Mojave).
  • R13 and later - At least macOS 10.15 (Catalina); supported by macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and later.
  • Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or higher.
  • Multi-user Server: Intel Core 2 Duo or higher processor to run a server.
  • 2 GB RAM (4 GB RAM recommended).
  • 250 MB of available disk space.
  • CD/DVD drive or Internet connection for downloaded installation.
  • Printer: 100% Macintosh-compatible printer, if you plan to print invoices, checks, deposit slips, lists, purchase orders, mailing labels, reports, or graphs.
  • Checks: Use Intuit Checks if you plan to print checks. Canadian Image Ready Checks are not supported.
  • Product registration required.

Quickbooks for Mac Desktop 2020 with Ventura

I am experiencing some issues with Ventura OS using Quickbooks Desktop Mac 2020.

It is crashing instantly when I am trying to enter any sales receipt. Each time I click on the item list to select the item..It crashes right away and I cannot find the item to enter the sale details related.

Hello there, eppaul.

We can perform some steps  to fix your QuickBooks from crashing when recording a sales receipt within your company file.

First, download the latest product updates to ensure you have the  recent update of QuickBooks.

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, click Install Update.
  3. When prompted, click Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

Once done, we can run the Verify and Rebuild Data within your company file to fix issues.

  1. Select File, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then select OK to close all windows.

Then, proceed with the steps outlined in the How to rebuild your company file data section. Check this article: Find the most common data issues in a company file and fixes them.

If the same thing happens, we can upgrade your QuickBooks to latest version to make you have the latest features and fixes.

Still, we can read through the subjects in our QuickBooks for Mac user's guide to learn how to manage your finances with QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Don't hesitate to post more if you have other questions about reconciliation or anything related to QuickBooks. Take care and have a good one.

I did some MAJOR reporting with Intuit about an hour ago. After updating to the latest version of Mac Desktop 2020 and updating my iMac to Ventura, my QB 2020 can't "see" my company data file! I get an error (attached) even when trying to reinstall my company backup. Tech chat informed me they are hearing more and more about this issue and that it involves people who use Merchant Services thru Intuit. We do accept CC/ACH payments via our QB, so that's us! We are basically out of business until this issue gets fixed. I can't believe Intuit releases software, that can do this to people's livelihoods. Lesson learned, NEVER update if everything is working fine! I'm a 20+ year customer of QB, and I'd leave it today if there was a viable alternative out there.

So I downloaded the trial version of QB 2020 and it seems to be working. But when I tried to pay for it they told me I now have to buy 2023 and it's $549 per year.

What a load of crap. I'm ready to try an alternate package.

Yep - its a bug in the latest version (the one that provides Ventura Compatibility) that impacts some users who use e-Invoice and download the payments back into the software.. The symptom is the file, once opened in the new version and then closed, can't be reopened.  Its actually missing some header information but the data is intact in the file.

Obviously we are very sorry that this bug escaped our testing. Testing everything is difficult and we are under a lot of pressure to ship the Ventura compatible update. This slipped through.

We pulled the update as soon as it was discovered and have fixed the issue.  A new version of the software will be out as soon as possible - I'm hoping tomorrow.  The fix is to download that update when it is available and open a backup file.

If you don't have any backup (a backup may have been created when you first ran the new version) contact support and keep the unopenable file to send to them.

I'm still on the phone with the second person in two days.  I have latest QB Desktop for Mac 2020 with Ventura on a practically new Mac.  Autofill doesn't work when typing in Account and Class in deposits and checks.  No one can figure it out.  Trying to sell me a subscription for 2023 but I want stand alone desktop only.

What are my alternatives?

Hi,

I am replying to questions about Macos Ventura 13. I see that you're working on some reported crash issues but I am having a problem with the dropdown menus when creating invoices.

I have a list of items for billing codes. On the invoice, items have the selection box like they did before but none of my preset codes come up. I have to type in "010_ConceptDevelopment" (for example) on every line item. This also affects descriptions. None of my present descriptions pop-up when I select the related item.

I appreciate you for joining the thread, @treasurer487. I'm here, and let's work this out so you can use the Autofill feature in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Before we do so, I'd like to know if you've already tried performing the Verify and Rebuild. This feature allows QuickBooks to check for possible data issues within your company file. Once it detects data damage, the program will begin fixing it.

If you haven't tried this method of troubleshooting, I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. But before we do that, I recommend turning off the QuickFill feature in your company. Here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. Go to Preferences.
  3. On the Preferences pane, select Data Entry.
  4. Set the preferencess described below to Off.

After turning the QuickFill feature, here are the steps to verify your company file data:

  1. Select File, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then select OK to close all windows. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

Please see this article for further guidelines: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Once you're with the process, you can turn on the QuickFill feature again for it to work.

Additionally, you can visit this page in case you'd like to use electronic payments in QBDT for mac: Turn on online payments in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

I'll also leave this article about how to add other details to a report in QBDT: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

@treasurer487, feel free to get back in the thread if you need further assistance with this. I'll make to help you right away. Take care, and have a good one.

The issue is Ventura and the version of QuickBooks Mac Desktop 2020 you have hasn't been updated to support Ventura.  Ventura introduced problems with the Comboboxes (among other things).  We have published updates to other versions unfortunately there was a somewhat obscure bug so we have pulled those updates.  The bug has been fixed and we will again be enabling updates.  Once you have the update it should fix the issue.

Some advice to those considering updating to macOS Ventura and worried it might not be compatible with QuickBooks 2020 desktop for Mac. DON'T DO IT!

I am not saying it isn't compatible. I am saying if you use the software for your business (who doesn't), then don't be reckless and upgrade to a new operating system before things are worked out with your most important software. That is just plain irresponsible.

After updating my Mac to Ventura. Quickbooks is crashing everytime I try to print. I cannot find anything on how to fix. QB is up to date to the latest version.

I NEED HELP ASAP.

The business cannot run without being able to print or make PDF files from QB

I have sent the emails required at the crash but I have not heard anything back.

Quickbooks for Mac Desktop 2020 with Ventura

I know this hasn't been easy, @Luis342.

I wish you didn't have to encounter issues with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac not being able to print or make PDF files.

As per ATTN-10476, Intuit is working hard to ensure that supported versions of QuickBooks are compatible with macOS Ventura. This is the reason why you're experiencing unexpected behaviors when printing and creating PDF files. For now, we're unable to provide an exact date as to when the next updates will be. Rest assured that our team is currently investigating this issue and is coming up with a fix.

In addition, we can also reach out to our customer support to make a follow-up about the emails you've sent to us. Here's how:

  1. On your QBDT for Mac, go to Help and select QuickBooks Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern and select Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account. Select Continue and then Continue with my account.
  5. You'll receive a single-use code. Enter that and select Continue.
  6. Choose between Chat with us and Have us call you.

Please see this article if you're interested to know what has improved in the latest updates of QBDT for Mac: Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020.

You're always welcome to return to this thread if you have additional concerns about printing files. I'd be glad to lend a helping hand. Stay safe!

All of this information about fixing Mac Desktop assumes you can start Quickbooks.  Downloading a clean copy of 2022, I have the Icon for QuickBooks but when selected it does nothing.  I cannot start it by finding a company file in Finder and selecting that either.

Quickbooks has closed my business!

How do I do any of these recommendations when I can not even get Quickbooks to open?

You have closed my business.  This stain will remain on your reputation long after you fix your software.

This isn't the experience we want you to have.

We can unlock your company file on your computer. This way, we can open your QuickBooks Desktop data.

Here's how:

  1. Open your Documents directory and make sure that your company file is saved there.
  2. Choose your company, click File, and then choose Get Info
  3. Make sure the Locked checkbox is unchecked.
  4. At the bottom of the Get info window, make sure your user name has permission to read and write the data.

Once done, try to open your QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our support team. They have the necessary tools to check your account and investigate the root cause of your concern.

I'm also adding this resource that can guide you in finding and resolving the most common data issues in a company file: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please keep me posted if you need more help with this. The Community is always here to guide you.

https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products?productName=QuickBooks%20Mac%20Desktop&edition=&v... is the download page for 2020.  Download it, drag it in your applications folder.  Double click on it in your applications folder (this avoids your doc pointing to somewhere else).  Hold down the option key while double clicking on it - this prevents it from loading your last used company file.

If QuickBooks does not launch after doing that there most likely is something on your machine that is preventing it.  What macOS version are you running?  If it is not supported that's the issue.  If the macOS is supported then the issue is likely some driver, system extension, bad font, or foreign typing system that is interfering with QuickBooks launch.  You can test that by "Safe booting" your Mac:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

If QuickBooks loads while in "safe boot" mode then the issue is one of the above.

Let me know what you find.

See the screenshot of my Documents directory. I don't see anything that looks like a company file. I've uninstalled the app and reinstalled it per a call into your tech department. Printing is still not working.
