QuickBooks Online for Mac app crashes

When trying to open the QuickBooks Online for Mac app this morning, it tries to open and then crashes. It was working fine yesterday. Nothing has changed on this side - no OS updates etc. I can't do any data resets via the app because it doesn't open. I would delete the app and reinstall it but I've searched for a download link for the app for ages and can not find one - why's that so hard to find? I can log in via a browser so I can get to my data, but I would like the app to work...

QuickBooks Online for Mac app crashes

Hello there, soundsessential

I know how vital for your company to use QuickBooks Online (QBO) Mac app smoothly. I'm here to help ensure the troubleshooting is a breeze for you.

We'll have to uninstall and reinstall the QBO Mac app to start on a clean slate. Here's how to remove the program:

  1. Close the QuickBooks Mac App.
  2. Click the QuickBooks drop-down menu and select Quit QuickBooks.
  3. Choose any blank space on the desktop.
  4. Head to the Go menu and select Go to folder.
  5. Enter ~/Libray/Application Support/QuickBooks into the Go to folder field.
  6. This action will direct you into the current user's Library fold.
  7. Highlight the QuickBooks folders and right-click to select Delete or drag and drop the folder to the trash.

Next, reinstall QBO on your computer. If you're unable to lodge the program, I recommend contacting our QBO Care Team to assist you further. Follow the steps below to obtain the support details:

  1. In your company, tap the Help icon in the upper right to open the support window.
  2. Head to the Assistant tab and enter a brief description of your concern in the field box.
  3. Click the Get help from a human link and type a phrase or keyword in the What can we help you with? field.
  4. Press the Continue button to view the support options.
  5. Choose Chat to start a conversation and Callback to speak with an agent.

QuickBooks Online for Mac app crashes

That fixed it but getting to a download of the app required a lengthy support chat. The instructions above are not quite accurate and links lead to Windows instructions. But deleting the library files and reinstalling the app has fixed the crashing.

I don't have a Quickbooks folder in the Library/Application Support.

Now what?

So my app continue to crash upon trying to load it.  Once in a blue moon it actually works.  I went to Library/Application Support, but there is no Quickbooks folder.  Now what do I do?

This continues to happen to me when they issue new updates.

Earlier this week it kept crashing and I finally found that if I log into QBO in a browser and then go to the Settings cog icon in the upper right, there's a "Get the desktop app" link in the first column.

Try downloading that and just deleting the existing app, replacing with the one downloaded.

I've also found a bit of a reliable workaround.  The app opens for a few seconds, at which point I reset the app data under the help menu.
