Actually, @aboring, it ALL comes down to corporate greed. That's all there is to it.
As long as people keep signing up and staying with this company, the more it will all continue.
There are other companies out there that are better, and less expensive. Google it, and see for yourself.

You can use old QB Desktop with a non-subscription license to lower costs.
Inuit has just announced at 17% rise in price for my subscription. Its disgusting, nothing but unadulterated greed.
That's insane! It's already up 100% more than just a few years ago! What a scam of a company!

You should consider switching to old QB Desktop with a non subscription license or other cloud based accounting apps.
Cannot do that, tax return and vat submissions to the IR in the UK are no longer possible in that version so that's out.

You can use old QB Desktop UK version + MTD Bridging app
I will look into it but I suspect its not going to be a viable solution for too much longer.
