Hi there, chetro.
Currently, we have an ongoing investigation about customers being unable to access the sales tax center under the sales tax owed page in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Our engineers are currently working on this to sort it out as quickly as possible. Since they are working on this internally, please know that we cannot provide a turnaround time regarding their efforts.
In line with that, we can use the suggested workaround to get around this current behavior. Thus, we can switch to Automated Sales Tax by referring to this article. It contains complete guidelines and what will happen after switching to this option: Switch to automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Do not do this work around if you have multiple city/sales tax agencies.
you will have to re set up all tax agencies
automatic only does your physical locations local tax and state tax
you cannot undo once you change to automatic
2plus hrs and no solution.
unless I set up new new tax liability accounts I can no longer enter sales receipts for multiple cities in my state
means you also can’t reconcile if you can’t enter sales
best to leave alone and pull liability reports and enter payments as journal entries
hopefully Intuit can fix this asap
I followed all of the steps and still get an error "Another tax agency is already using this name. Please use a different name. (code: 'INDIRECTAX.11202").
We only charge tax in the state of Nebraska and our tax agency is Nebraska Department of Revenue which is already set up in my Quickbooks.
Thank you.

My system will not switch to the Automated Sales Tax. We only collect sales tax in the state of Nebraska to the Nebraska Department of Revenue. The system gives me an error stating I already have the Nebraska Department of Insurance as my tax agency. Thank you.
What is going on with getting this fixed?
Hin - PLEASE UPDATE im getting the same error - is this going to be resolved prior to my state mandated deadline, as there are interest and fees due if not.
Thank you

Agreed. This is annoying. QB has not resolved the issue yet.
Greetings, we continue to experience multiple significant issues with the sales tax center. I have not learned of a workaround for recording and viewing Sales Tax Owed in the Sales Tax Center. However, I have a suggestion for a workaround to calculate sales taxes accurately in the Sales by Customer Detail Report. The system seems to calculate sales tax accurately for Sales Receipts but not for Invoices. When I have used sales receipts instead of invoices, the report has accurate. I have not been able to use the workaround 100% as sales receipts are not compatible with transactions that allow for deposits or partial payments. In those cases, I have had to review each invoiced sale to recalculate the sales taxes separately. It has been thwarting and burdensome.
Have you considered trying/trying the Sales Tax Liability Report? There are date filters on the report so you can grab only fully funded tax payments made in the tax period you are filing. This report would ignore partial/deposit transactions, and not report on them until that the invoice is fully paid..
I've been making journal entries for the tax payments. Not as streamlined as I expect from Quickbooks, but it works.
Greetings, thank you for your ideas. We will be exploring manual journal entries to log some entries before we hand over our books to the accountant. We are also taking measures outside of Quickbooks as we move forward. All the best to you in 2024.

I have already called twice about this issue. I have a new ticket
from this morning INV #907404. I got this created after the guy
wasted 30 mins of my time trying different browsers and the app.
Super frustrating so if this ticket was resolved, I would like to see
what the resolution was and if it fixes my issue.
Calling doesn't help at all. I have called every couple weeks for 2 months now. I get - Sorry, an error occurred in Sales Tax. When trying to setup automated sales tax, I get an error too. Called on that. Started Chats. In the end waste all my time for the same answer. They are working on it and it's a priority. How do we request a refund from Quickbooks until this is resolved??
Not resolved. Wasting my time too.
Ditto and ditto.
I have called repeatedly and as recently as of this am. Quick books as of 1/4/2024 I was told Quickbooks will not support any classic sales tax , you have to do the automated sales tax update. They closed the investigation number for 95439 found above.
I did do there auto sales tax conversion along with their representative and the sales tax report or link still continues to be inoperable. I am having to pull reports from chart of accounts and do journal entries as a work around. My investigaition number is 92855 and supposedly still an active investigation they are working on. With this change you will not be able to select old tax accounts in reciepts, only journal entries. The sales reciept now have an address drop down to enter zip code and creates new tax chart based off location.
