Scanning Barcodes with the QB App

Is there a way to scan ITF-14 barcodes with the QB app on the Zebra TC25? The device itself reads the barcode but once in the QB app the device will no longer scan or pick up the data, works fine with our other UPC-A barcodes. Desktop V 18 app V1.4.0.10

Scanning Barcodes with the QB App

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @Preppy Puppy.

Let me share with you some information about barcode scanning in QuickBooks Desktop.

The ITF-14 barcode is commonly used for carton marking by retailers. Industries, such as Grocery, Hardware, Office Supply, and Sporting Goods. The ITF-14 is printed directly on a corrugated carton, due to the differences in the printing processes, the sizing and format are different. This could be the reason why QuickBooks app can no longer scan or pick up data.

You may consult your individual trading partners for their barcode size requirements and the GS1 General Specifications.

You’ll also want to check the specifications that need to be met to ensure your scanner will work with QuickBooks.

  • The scanner must support EAN-13 (International Article Number, formerly European Article Number) and Code-128 barcodes.
  • The scanner must produce a single carriage return at the end of the barcode.

You can use these articles as a reference with setting up Barcode scanning and also test your scanner to see if QuickBooks Desktop will recognize it.

Please let me know if you need further assistance. I am here to help. Take care!

Scanning Barcodes with the QB App

Hi & Thanks for your reply. We are a manufacturer and actually created these barcodes for our own products. We print this barcode on standard direct thermal labels, same as the other labels we use. The ITF-14 is our standard for a full case of product and we also have UPC-A style barcodes for the retailer to use for individual item sale. We are using the recommended TC-25 scanner and have already reached out to Zebra technical support to try to resolve the issue. We then reached out to QB tech support who had no answers but recommended we ask the development team. (I posted this question to the link the support rep provided originally and was told I was in the wrong place) We're just hoping to get a concrete answer and hopefully do whatever we can to resolve the issue. If the app cannot scan ITF-14 barcodes we just need to know so we can overhaul our system I guess.

Scanning Barcodes with the QB App

Hi @Preppy Puppy

Unfortunately this problem still persists to this day. Have you found a solution or workaround for barcode scanning with QuickBooks?

This issue alone has forced my management to start looking into other more complete ERPs and leave QuickBooks behind.
