Using Quickbooks as a non US Resident

Hello,

I wanted to know if Quickbooks can also help me with taxes and bookkeeping if I´m the owner of an LLC in USA but not being a US Resident.

Thank you,

Alejandro

Welcome to the Community, Alejandro7.

With QuickBooks, you can add and edit tax agencies, rates, and settings in your Sales Tax Center.

Here's how to add a tax rate and agency:

  1. In the left navigation bar, go to Taxes, then Sales tax.
  2. Under your Related Tasks list, click Add/edit tax rates and agencies.
  3. Hit New and choose either a single or combined rate.
  4. Enter a name, agency, and percentage. use a single rate if you pay just one rate to a single agency.
  5. Select Save.

You can find more information about using the Sales Tax Center in our Set up your sales tax article.

If you have a Payroll subscription, you can also set up QuickBooks to pay and file payroll taxes and forms.

In the event you're using QuickBooks Desktop, you can refer to these articles:

Hello ZackE,

Thank you for your kind reply.

I only have on question left... does Quickbooks also help non US Residents? Can they help me?

(For clarification I´m a non US Resident who has an LLC in Wyoming)

Thank you,

@Alejandro7

You can use QB Online US version for your company. But you need a SSN to apply for a QB Payment account to accept payments. If you run a B2B company, you can use a 3rd payment processor to integrate with QBO.

Can a EIN Number be an alternative to a SSN?

Using Quickbooks as a non US Resident

Thank you for joining us here in the Community, Alejandro. I'd like to join the conversation and provide some clarification about the requirements.

Although non-US residents can use QuickBooks Online, there are some limitations and specific details to keep in mind.

For starters, you'll be required to provide a US-based address while purchasing your plan. This is necessary for billing and subscription accuracy purposes.

The address will also be used in calculating and collecting sales tax, as explained in this Help article:  Learn How QuickBooks Online Calculates Sales Tax

About your question, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and a Social Security Number (SSN) have different intended uses, so they cannot be used interchangeably.

Aside from that, we require a Social Security number to activate your account for identity verification purposes. For now, we are unable to process activations for customers who do not have an SSN.

For more information, please refer to these helpful resources: Take And Process Payments In QuickBooks Online With QuickBooks Payments.

To help you get started with QuickBooks Payments, I recommend checking out these resources:

Please let me know if you need any other assistance, Alejandro. The QuickBooks Team is here to help make sure you get up and running smoothly.

am a US based 2 member LLC (taxed as S Corp).  The business has an EIN and both member owners have US social security numbers. One of the owners, however, currently only holds residency status in the US and does not have a US passport or citizenship.  I was told by QuickBooks that they could not offer us End of Year Live Tax Filing Services for our business because of this. 1800-Accountant had offered us tax filing services the year prior without issue. Either the individual from QuickBooks that I consulted did not know her information or there may be more challenges to using QuickBooks for tax filing purposes that aren’t being mentioned here. Can someone from QuickBooks please comment on this?  Thanks.

Let me chime in and direct you to the appropriate support, wab.

I recommend contacting the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for assistance with your tax filings. This will help ensure you have accurate information about the policies and procedures and ensure you're on the right track.

Also, you can check out the QuickBooks ProAdvisor service to help you with your bookkeeping, taxes, and payroll queries. You can check out this website to find one: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant/

Moreover, you can visit the QuickBooks Community Help-Articles if you need tips with managing your taxes and related articles for future use.

Can QuickBooks Live Tax Preparation help file my business taxes in the above scenario? Is it true that QuickBooks Live cannot prepare end of year business taxes for a 2 member LLC (taxed as S corp) where both members have a US SSN, but one of those members is only a US resident and not yet a citizen with US passport?

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the bookkeeping services offered through QuickBooks Live, Bschwab. Let me provide some clarity about the scope of this feature.

It's important to note that this feature has certain limitations depending on the specific nature and needs of your business. The services offered are not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Before signing up, the QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping team will carefully evaluate your company's structure. This allows them to verify eligibility and ensure that your bookkeeping requirements can be properly accommodated within the scope of their services.

Depending on the complexity of your transactions, industry, or other unique factors specific to your business, there may be certain bookkeeping tasks or roles that fall outside of the scope of what the QuickBooks Live team can accommodate.

You can read more details about this in the Frequently Asked Questions and Important pricing details and product information section on this website: How Bookkeeping Works.

If your company isn't eligible for their services after careful evaluation, you may want to explore working with an accredited QuickBooks ProAdvisor instead. ProAdvisors are certified accountants and bookkeepers who can assist with year-end tax preparation and filing.

Here is the link to find and connect with a qualified ProAdvisor in your area: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant/

Additionally, I'd like to provide these articles for further guidance and resources when working on your year-end tasks in QuickBooks Online:

Please let me know if you need any other guidance as you further research your options for filing your year-end taxes. I'd be happy to point you toward the right resources and help you further, Bschwab.
