Hi there, @brantel.
I'd be glad to help you export your QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online data.
Before we start the troubleshooting process, I'd like to let you know that you can only move a company file from QuickBooks Desktop within 60 days after signing up to QuickBooks Online. If it's within the grace period, you can follow the steps below.
First, you can update your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version to its latest release to ensure you have all the updated components. Then, try to export again. If the program still crashes while exporting, I'd recommend running the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
If the outcome is still the same, you can follow Solutions 2 and 3 in this article for more troubleshooting steps: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working. This also contains a list of the possible causes why the QBDT program crashes.
You can always get back in the comment section and tag my name if you need further assistance or questions. I'd be happy to help you to the bottom of this. Take care.
Make sure you are migrating to QBO from any supporting QBD versions (i.e 2018-2020) and the Total Targets < 350K.

Let's export again your company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO), brantel.
It's good to hear that your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software is fully updated.
If you've already performed the steps on how to fix QuickBooks when it stops working, you can re-export the file. And, I'm glad to provide the steps:
Once done, run one of your financial reports to check if your import is successful. This makes sure your books match.
If your reports don’t match, check this guide to know what happened to your data when you moved from QuickBooks Desktop to Online.
Also, if you've already set up payroll in QBO, you'll need to move your lists instead of the company file.
Let me know how these steps go by commenting below. I'm always right here to help ensure you're able to move your file.
I cant because when I get to step 3, I get a popup window that is all white and about 10 seconds later the program crashes and closes with no error messages. It never gets to the start the export phase or to the point where you sign into QB online. That is the whole issue.
I have been able to export a copy of the QBD company file using the manual export company file for use in QB online tool located inside QBD and it creates and saves a file but there does not seem to be a way to manually import this file into QB Online.
The normal method does not work due to the crashes and I am looking for an alternative.
I'm here to help you with moving your data, brantel.
It could be that some components of the program are damaged that's why you encountered that error. You'll want to consider utilizing the QuickBooks Tool Hub to get rid of run-time errors. Feel free to follow the steps provided by my colleague, MarsStephanieL.
Alternatively, you can run the built-in repair tool to help fix common errors and unusual behaviors right away. Before diving in, let's create a back up of your company file first so you can use it to restore your data if you ever run into problems. Here's how to use the repair tool:
You may also need to restart your computer to complete the repair. Once it's rectified, you can now start converting your desktop file to a QuickBooks Online company.
Additionally, I encourage reading this article to learn what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: What to expect when you switch from QBDT to QBO.
If I can be of any additional assistance, please don't hesitate to insert a comment below. Assistance is just a post away.
Tried the suggested QB Tool Hub as directed and it did not solve the problem.
Trued the repair function from Programs and Features and the repair will not execute properly as it comes up with errors while trying to update the files.
I am going to try and move a copy of our company file to a new computer with a fresh install of QBD running in trial mode and then try and export it from there.
