why are journal entries for next month showing up in our register?

We operate on a cash basis and we never had any journal entries post in the register until this past May. All of these journal entries are associated with payroll; we use a non-QuickBooks vendor to process our payroll and they are connected to our QuickBooks account.

why are journal entries for next month showing up in our register?

Hello there, Bob.

The reason journal entries for next month appear in your register is likely due to another user manually posting these entries, as well as actions from your third-party payroll provider.

To confirm, you can check the Audit log to see who created or edited the entries. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Tools tab, select Audit Log.
  3. Supply the necessary tab to filter specific data for Users, Date Changed, and Events.
  4. Now you have the data to trace the transactions.

For more details and to keep track of your activities in QuickBooks Online, you can check the Audit log.

Additionally, you mentioned that you process your payroll with another provider. With this in mind, you can inquire with your payroll provider about how they sync data in QuickBooks.
