Why do I have to connect to the internet when exporting the accountant's changes even though the changes are not being sent to the client via internet?
Hello there, Pay employees under the Family F.
Let me share some details about exporting the accountant's changes in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
The internet connection requirement when exporting the changes to a flash drive is due to the software licensing or authentication processes. Even when exporting changes to a flash drive, the software may still require an internet connection for verification.
Furthermore, QBDT 2023 requires an internet connection at least once every 14 days for license information sync using your default browser.
Additionally, only the accountant or the person handling the client's financial information can export the changes (.QBY). Check this link for more details and steps: Export accountant's changes.
I've also added these articles to help you successfully export the file:

This particular client is using QB 2021. There is no reason for either one of us to connect to the internet. We bought a copy of the software, that's it. You have your money and we, the user, should be able to use all functions of the software no matter if we are connected to the internet. The software does not have to be connected to the internet to be used. We do not use the payroll module and we have no reason to ever connect to the internet via intuit's software. When an accountant's copy is created, the system will only allow the changes to be imported from the exported file. intuit has no reason for my client to get online to use this function. No authentication required. It's called good ol' fashioned honest business practices.
