Using Quick books desktop 2018, I have problem with fixed items registration.
Here is what I have done:
1. I registered the item name (HP computer) from the fixed asset list
Then, I want to record the purchase of the item, (Two HP computers). When I click on either purchase or bill or write a check, where ever, I can't select the item but I can't change the item quantity which should be 2, that is automatically greyed out.
I have attached example shot of the problem.

I have some information on how QuickBooks performs about fixed assets. Transactions using fixed assets do not support QTY or Quantity. That said, the QTY column is grayed out in bills, purchase orders, and write checks.
You can change the amount of the fixed item to include the total bill amount and add a memo about the quantity as a workaround. You can also consult with your accountant to properly record the fixed asset items.
Learn more about fixed assets by following these steps.

Item in your bill is the fixed asset item and has no quantity option. What you need to add would be a product/service item which you add that posts to the fixed asset. Then you can select the Item and quantity.
But wouldn't that affect the integrity of the accounts since using the "product" option would result in the asset being captured under "current assets" instead of fixed asset?
