Same issue on all devices. Took about an hour and 45 to complete on each of the 5 devices I have updated so far. Terrible experience!
I had success finally by running the Quickbooks Tool Hub, running the install diagnostic tool. It still took over an hour, but mine was getting stuck for hours on end otherwise. I hope this helps!
IM AT 31% AFTER 1 HR AND WAITING
I am at 31% after 1 hr and still letting it go
We appreciate your patience while installing the latest QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) updates, jeff90210. We want to ensure this issue is addressed promptly so you can complete your tasks and utilize the system with its newest improvements.
We've been receiving similar cases where updates get stuck when updating QBDT 2024 R8 to R9 (INV-112998). Rest assured that this case is currently being worked on with utmost urgency.
As a workaround, you can download the R9 patch from the Downloads and Updates site if you can't install the update. If the patch is still unavailable, uninstall QuickBooks, download the R9 version of QBDT from the same site, and install it using the new executable file.
In keeping with this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team so you'll be included in the list of affected users and receive regular updates on the progress. To do this, here's how:
Moreover, make sure to back up your company file so you can recover your data whenever necessary. For a complete guide on how to do so, check out this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
If there's anything else you need or you have other concerns about updating QuickBooks, please don't hesitate to leave a reply below. I'm always ready to help.
As a follow-up to others having a challenge - I decided to wait for the slow progress and hope for the best. In my case it completed successfully after 4-1/2 hours. My accounting workstation is Windows 10 Pro, 8 GB RAM, 64 bit processor. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz 2.79 GHz. Well over 100 GB available on C. I would say my QB file is fairly large.
Since the upgrade I've noticed no performance (or GUI) changes - guess that's not a bad thing. Very disappointed however that QB doesn't respect our time enough to allow a 4 hour downtime without warning.
I hope the rest of you have a better experience.
I am having trouble updating one of my clients on Windows 10. I work at this client 2 hours weekly. I do not have the time to wait for a slow update. And I don't have the time to contact customer support. I am paying a LOT for Intuit to not waste my time. When it actually updates in a reasonable amount of time, let me know.
Just so everyone knows it's not a system spec issue, I'm having the same experience on a Windows 11 Pro Ryzen 9 5900x with 64 GB of DDR5 6400mt, and a 4th gen NVMe boot drive. No other applications running and a local install of QB Desktop (no networking shenanigans).
Now I am very irritated. My end users are now getting the message that they only have two more chances to open the company file without installing the update. This is an update that has been documented taking over 4 hours to complete in come cases. We have 30 users. Our company can not afford that down time. Not to mention there are storms in our area today that frequ3sntly cause power outages. Our battery backups are not sized to maintain up time should a power outage occur during this install. This is not an acceptable practice.
@TheStoreDecor : My update had finally went through when I let it go for four or more hours a few weeks ago, so frustrating ! A couple days ago I started getting a new message again to install my new update. Upon looking at the details was this same update I had finally already installed for my 3 sets of books, UGH! And saying I only had 2 more chances. I took a chance and hit "install now" and it went really quick. I had changed to multi-user mode and it seemed it just had to find the update under that user ? I guess ? I have not opened QB today which would be third try so hopefully ? If it has me locked out, there goes my full afternoon on the phone with support at QB I bet ! Hate this program, wish my accountant would change ! It used to be good when it was simple BOOKS, and after they started trying to include all kinds of options, you can't keep BOOKS anymore !
My end users started getting the popup saying they only have 2 more chances to delay the update. I was excited to see there was an R10 update now and had hopes that the issue was fixed. I am now 30 minutes into the upgrade to my first workstation as a test and R10 is still at 30%. This workstation has an i7, SSD and 16GB of RAM. While it is not high end , it is not low end either. Updates in the past have taken about 5 minutes.
This is not acceptable. We do not have hours to do this update today. There are storms in our area that are frequently accompanied with power outages. Our battery backups are sized to give us just enough time to shut down in case of a power failure. This is completely unacceptable to force users to endure an update process that has been documented to take as much as 4.5 hours with no option to skip.
Doesn't matter if you let the software download it and patch or if you go and get the patch directly from the downloads page it takes OVER an hr for them to complete. Typical QB Bs.
Thanks for the reply. I guess there is some hope. I completely agree for most small businesses it has gotten too big for what they need. We use Enterprise edition and have for many years. At one time it was actually a good product and a good fit for us. This was before forced updates and back when they had a special group of 100% U.S. based support for enterprise users only. It is unfortunate that they are kind of the only game in town.
@TheStoreDecor : Well no luck, when opened QB said I had one more try to install all over again so hit install and now it is installing all over again. I had a successful install a few weeks ago ! Why this pain all over again ?? !!
Yeah hardware has nothing to do with it its a poorly written patch that struggles to make registry changes. Mines on a dell R630 server with 128GB ECC Ram, 12gbs SSD's and 2 x 16 core processors with no one logged onto it other than the administrator account installing the patch...
One more reply just to apologize to the group for the double post and my reply about "some hope" falling under the wrong response. Just extremely frustrated with Intuit at the moment. I just got off the phone with Intuit. Their suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall. Again, We have storms in the area. Not something I want to do with power failures are possible.
So on a Dell R630 server Windows server 2019 64bit version, with 128gb Ecc ram, 2 x 16 core intel Zeon's and 12gbs interface SSd's at 1000 mbs write speed it takes over an hr. The issue is when it starts to write system registry values. someone most likely let AI write the Registry patching side and its got way too long of a delay after each value so it takes forever. If someone would go check the delay values, I bet they could fix it but then again, they want everyone on cloud that is missing tons of desktop features especially for accountants so I'm really not shocked at the lack of effort from them. If they got rid of a few help desk script regurgitaters on this help forum... Well, they might be able to bring back that great tech support they used to have. But no we get copied and pasted response that have nothing to do with the actual issue and told they are investigating it and usually after 5 months to a year they post Oh... We figured it out. Not really its usually some tech on this forum figuring it out for them.
3 Hrs!!!!! 3 Freakin Hrs in the middle of the day with a dead line looming in less than 11 hrs... Awesomely Astonishing stuff for one version to patch one revision. Here is an Idea, Remove the mandatory install for the revision changes until AFTER you figure out how to keep it from wasting everyone's time. I am gonna remove the "AUTO UPDATE" that there ihas NEVER been anything "AUTO" About so it stops downloading this crap and limiting access to the program and just do them manually over night, Which is still inconvenient considering our systems are 24hr a day production environment equipment. One of these days a better mouse trap will come along and a failing empire will fall. So to those of you that are canceling the patch thinking its stuck, its not, you just have to wait it out. I do suggest using the Web Patch from the downloads page as those only seem to take an hour to an hour and a half. Ridicules that this is still going on a month later.
Ours was stuck at 25% updating registry at 1.5 hours into update. I disabled Windows Defender and it finished almost immediately. Wish I would have thought of this sooner.
This was on Reddit and it works like a charm, please intui, figure this thing out.
It appears to be Windows Defender blocking the update. Switching it off (Windows Security > Virus and threat protection > Manage settings > Real-time protection) appears to allow it through at a normal pace. Of course remember to switch it back on after!
So just above is a link to use the quickbooks tool hub to create rules that are supposed to fix this. Personally I cant attempt this until tonight and I will report back after because I have the wrong version of the tool hub. You need the newest version so it has the quickfix option for the tool hub to create the correct rules. Tried reading up on the manual option and its a mess as newer versions use specific ports and they dont really say if its the same port for newer versions or if they each use a different port. Try the tool hub first if your able to. No one else can be logged on if server environment and quick books will need to be closed in order to install tool hub. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/quickbooks-update-sto...
Okay so I was able to test. Here are the results.
The Quick books tool Hub: I updated to 1.6.0.7.... It didn't update but the installer thought it did even though the version when you open didn't change. So, Using the same update installer run it... Then run it again after it says it finished. You will have two options, Repair and uninstall. I choose uninstall and it uninstalled it. I then ran the same update installer for a 3rd time and reinstalled it. This worked. I ran the Tool Hub as Administrator from the Administrator account. The option to " Add Defender Exclusion" was there. I clicked on it. Nothing seems to happen. No screen flashes, no command prompt flashes just the button being light blued out. I went to Settings/Update and security/Windows Security/ Virus and Threat protection. In this window I went to Virus & Threat Protection Settings and clicked on Manage Settings. Remember this window because ya gonna need it. I scrolled past the toggles of Real time Protection, Cloud-Delivered Protection and Auto Sample Submission to Exclusions. Under "Exclusions" in blue is Add or Remove Exclusions, Click on it. In here should now be the Exclusions for the program Files of all installed versions. This will look like Program files\Intuit\Quick Books 20xx for accountant versions and Program files\Intuit\Quick Books Enterprise solutions 2x.x for Enterprise versions, also Program files\Intuit\Quickbooks20xx\components\download QB2X For ever version you have installed.
This still didn't work.
So On the advise of another post I went back to that window with the toggles of Real time Protection, Cloud-Delivered Protection and Auto Sample Submission to Exclusions I said to remember earlier. Toggle all 3 off and the PITA update finishes while its still running in 30 seconds.
So to recap the easiest solution so far is to run the patch.... Go to Settings/Update and security/Windows Security/ Virus and Threat protection. In this window go to Virus & Threat Protection Settings and click on Manage Settings. Toggle off Real time Protection, Cloud-Delivered Protection and Auto Sample Submission to Exclusions. Let the patch finish, Then after the patch is complete, Toggle them all back on. Make sure you turn them all back on. DAS But it works
I can't open my Quickbooks because of the update. I can't get past requiring me to update and it has been an hour at 24%. If there is a way around this update so I can get on my QB, please let me know.
THIS WORKS AND IT IS SO MUCH SIMPLER THAN OTHER "WORKAROUNDS"!!!
THANK YOU!
