Restore backup from one QuickBooks online account to another

Hi,

I am attempting to restore company data from one QuickBooks account to another, however this only seems possible if importing from a desktop client.

Is there a way to import strictly from a QuickBooks online account to another?

Thank You,

Let me point you in the right direction on how to transfer your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to a different account, 000112.

We'll need to make a copy of your current QBO Advance company and use it to start a new one. Both companies must have QBO Advanced accounts to complete this task. The source company containing all of the data will be referred to as Company A, while  Company B is where we download the data.

To begin, let's create a copy of Company A. We’ll call this blank company file Company B (it should be empty) and then overwrite it with Company A’s information. Then, enable the Online Back-up & Restore feature for the companies you want to make a copy of and export data to.

Here's how:

  1. In your company, head to the Gear icon ⚙ and choose Back up company under Tools.
  2. You might need to sign in to your Intuit account and then choose Authorize to proceed.

Next, turn off automatic backup for Company B only. Then, deactivate all automation settings in both Company A and B. Follow the steps below to carry out the task:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and choose Account and settings.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced menu on the left panel and click the Pencil for  Automation.
  3. From there, turn off each option.
  4. Click Save and Done

We'll now copy the data from Company A to Company B. For more information, see Step 3 in this article: Make a copy of your QuickBooks Online Advanced company.

However, if you're using other QBO versions, you have the option to utilize a third-party application to transfer the data to another account or export your lists. Here's an article that goes over the step-by-step process: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

In addition, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions about importing data into the online program. The full details are available here. You'll then learn about the supported file formats and information types you can import, to name a few.

Do you need to migrate data to a new QBO account provided by TechSoup?

Thanks for the advise.

We have a slightly different situation. Company B sits within a different subscription (different QuickBooks login account). Is there a way to copy a backup of Company A from one subscription to another?

You may have 3 ways to consider:

1. Utilize a migration tool

2. Purchase a 3rd party migration service

3. Convert your data to a QB Desktop file and convert it back to the new QBO account. You will find some data differs between QBO accounts due to limitations of the conversion process.

I see you want to transfer your QuickBooks Online data to a QuickBooks Online Advance version account. Let me share some information that could help you.

If you are not currently in the Advanced release, you may want to consider upgrading your QuickBooks Online instead of having another account. If you have an existing QBO Advanced, you can cancel it. then, upgrade the existing QBO to QBO Advanced. It's much easier this way. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary or company admin.
  2. Go to Settings and select Subscriptions and Billing.
  3. Make sure your payment info is up to date.
  4. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade your plan.
  5. Review the available plans and then select Choose Plan.
  6. Follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan.

For detailed information, refer to this article: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online edition.

Moreover, I'll also share this link where you can go through some frequently asked questions about importing data to QBO: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Why do you need to migrate? You only need to upgrade your plan.

You are correct that QuickBooks Online's native functionality does not currently provide a direct method to import or restore data from one QBO account to another, as this feature is primarily available for QuickBooks Desktop environments. However, SysCloud is actively developing a comprehensive solution that will enable administrators to copy backed-up data from a source QuickBooks Online company to a destination company, supporting full-company, object-level, and item-level restore options. We expect to have this solution available within the next 3 months and will keep you updated on our progress.
