Join nowHello, I wanted to see if there is a way to restrict users from switching to single user mode. I searched the forums and found one post from like 4 years ago where someone said that it was a good idea and that it'll be sent over to the product engineering team. Has this feature been implemented? Have a customer with around 20 computers and most of them are logged into QB throughout the day. They use QB for everything from sales, to inventory, etc... its their bread and butter. The problem is that if someone opens the file in single user it brings it down for everyone. This happens relatively often. This is obviously a big issue because whether intentional or unintentional if a user logs into QB in single user mode then no one can login to work. This brings down the front counter where sales are conducted, the accounting department, etc... Obviously a single user being able to bring down access to the system at will is a big issue. So is there any progress on this?
I know that you can select open in multiuser when opening the file, but that doesn't always work, I've noticed that it will revert to opening in singleuser for whatever reason. There is the ini file trick that I saw, but that would have to be done on every single computer. And every tech would have to remember to do it when a computer is reimaged. This will work for a couple of months maybe, and then someone will forget and the problem will happen again.
Please let me know if there is a permanent fix for this issue, thanks.
Thank you for finding a related post before posting, mrlizard.
As of the moment, there isn't a change to the ability to switch single-user mode. Therefore, if you haven't already. Feel free to go back to this thread.
If you any other questions in mind, pls don't hesitate to go back to this thread. I'll be here for you.
Wow, really surprising to me QB hasn't implemented something like this since QB is advertised as business or even enterprise class software. I can't be the only that has noticed that for a single user to have the ability to lock people out of a company file is a big issue.
Anyways, I'm trying to follow the suggestion you mentioned but I don't see a help option. Is it somewhere on my forum post and I'm missing it?
Hi mrlizard,
I see how efficient it could be to restrict users from switching to single-user mode. While this option is unavailable, we suggest sending feedback to our developers.
You can see the Help option mentioned by my colleague located at the top menu on your QuickBooks Desktop file. I'll add this screenshot as your visual reference.
Moreover, I've also added this article with complete lists of the tasks you can perform in each mode: Features available and tasks you can perform in single or multi-user mode in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'm always around whenever you have concerns with your QuickBooks file.
The inability to block single user sign on is so disruptive to the company and very frustrating there isn't a fix out yet.
