@4GalWindows 10

Also,  this locks up the app and I have to go into task manager and end the task.  However, if I disconnect the internet before opening the file then I do not get this and am able to open the file and work in it as normal.

Try to reinstall your QB program.

I used windows uninstall to remove Quickbooks.  However, when I installed again from the disc, the license and product numbers auto filled.  Is there another file somewhere on the computer that I also need to delete to completely remove the program and do a fresh install?

Hello there, @btks.

Let me share additional details about your concern about reinstalling the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You're right that if you installed the program from a Disc, the license and product numbers will auto-filled because once you purchase a Disc, it will link the license and product key.

Additionally, uninstalling the QBDT will remove the program, and the folder that holds the company file will remain. If you reinstall the program, it will automatically create a new folder and rename the old ones. Visit this article for further details: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop.

So, there's no other file that needs to be clear. If you want to remove the previous file that holds the company data, you can just delete it. However, please ensure you have a backup copy in case you need it in the future.

If you want to delete the old folder, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Search and open the File Explorer.
  3. Find and open the folder that holds your QuickBooks company files, which can usually be found in these locations:

  • C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)
  • C:\Users\(current user)\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)
  • C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)64-bit version
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks (year)

Then, right-click the folder and select Delete.

If you encounter errors and issues in managing your activation, license, and product key, refer to this article for future reference: Fix activation, license, and product numbers issues.

Please tag me in the comment section if you have follow-up queries about managing your company file in QBDT. I'm always here to help you.

@btks

Use a free tool (e.g CCleaner) to remove the program.
