Shared Folder - Permissions and Security

Quickbooks Desktop 2019

2 users - Station1 has the database; Station2 has access to the folder

I cloned the existing HDD to a new SSD.  No issues except with access to the shared folder.  This has been working for years but the computer started to slow greatly.   Note also this computer was using purchased McAfee antivirus/security and was using the McAfee firewall and other features.  I've done 100's of cloned drives with no issues if the drive wasn't already failing.

Station1 - workstation and has the database

Station2 - workstation accesses the database

From Station1 - if I right-click, properties, share - if I choose the simple share I get a "your folder can't be shared" Windows error.   if I right-click, properties, advanced share, permissions I see only the Everyone principal with full control.  There is not a Administrators, QBDataServiceUser29, or user name listed.   Under Security I only see Everyone with full control.

- should I add these principals?

- should I create another folder and share it?

Note also the error when trying to access Station1 from Station2.

If I type in \\Station1 it shows up but i get a error message "Windows cannot access \\Station1.   You do not have permission..."

So this seems to still be a Windows share issue.

I have double checked the Network sharing selections and they are all correct.

Suggestions?

DH

Shared Folder - Permissions and Security

Thanks for the info, @dholley328.

Let's get your QuickBooks multi-user setup working. You'll want to download and run our QuickBooks Tool Hub. It has tools that fix problems related to the computer network (including Windows share).

Here's how to do it:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download QuickBooks Tool Hub. Then, save the file on your Desktop.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe). Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  5. From the launchpad, select Network Issues.

The tool will automatically download it in the background. Once it's completed, restart your computer. Then, have your other user access again the program. Learn more about the tool in this guide: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Additionally, please check your firewall and antivirus permissions. Make sure you give the Database Server Manager permission to run on your server computer.

About creating a new shared folder, here's the link for details: Set up folder sharing.

Don't hesitate to reply to this thread and let me know how it goes after trying the steps as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Take care and stay safe.
