How do I add/bring back the "ship via" field on my invoices?
Now that Quickbooks has forced me to use the new invoice interface, the "ship via" field is missing from my custom invoice template. When I open a new invoice and click "customization" --> custom fields "manage" --> it says "you don't have any custom fields" and the green "add field" button is faded out so I cannot click on it. The "ship via" column still shows up when I run my standard custom report (but of course all of the rows in that column are blank).
Thanks!
It's great to see you again in our Community, kelsey2022. I understand that dealing with new features can sometimes be overwhelming. Hence, I'd be happy to explain in detail the Ship via field in the new invoice layout.
We've introduced a new invoice experience that simplifies the process of creating, delivering, and managing custom invoices. It has been available since June and comes with new features and capabilities.
However, some of the classic invoice features such as Ship via, Shipping date, and Tracking no. fields are currently unavailable in the new experience. If you would like to request these features to be added in future product updates, I suggest providing your feedback to our software engineers. Here's how:
Starting from October 16, 2023, all users of Simple Start will be permanently moved to a new invoice experience. However, if you're using QuickBooks Essentials, Plus, or Advanced, you'll have the option to switch back to the old layout if you prefer. If you have the option to revert, you can do so in the meantime to keep track of your shipping details.
Moreover, you should be able to manage and add custom fields in QuickBooks Online. Since the green Add field button has faded out on your end, it would be best to perform some basic troubleshooting steps because QuickBooks periodically exhibits strange behavior and experience performance issues brought on by browser problems. To begin, use an incognito window when adding a custom field. Keyboard shortcuts are as follows:
If you're able to do so, return to your regular browser and clear your browser's history to start afresh. If not, we suggest using a different supported browser because the QuickBooks version you're utilizing now may have a temporary problem.

Are there real people behind these responses to questions?
You realize that people have been happily creating invoices and using features common to nearly every invoicing program (e.g. Tracking Number, Ship Via, etc). You decide to redesign the invoicing experience (great - i don't care).. But I do care that when you redesign the experience you have taken away functionality. In addition - you FORCE users to migrate to the new experience when it is not even half-baked.
You don't even provide a viable workaround to achieve the same result.
How about you allow people to continue to use the original invoice experience while you add the features that are missing. I will move to the new experience when it is on-par with existing functionality. For me - that will be when specific features are implemented in it.
Do you seriously expect us to submit feedback to gain back known lost functionality?
Yeah what he said I've been searching for these fields for a week now. I just spent a ton of time and money getting a shipping platform to push shipping details to these fields and now there's nowhere for the data to go.
In Account & Settings / Sales Form Content, there is an option to 'turn on' Shipping. Turning this on "Adds shipping fields (date, tracking number, destination, subtotal) to sales forms. "
I have 4 Custom Sales forms (Quote, Work Order, Invoice, Packing List) that I created and uploaded to QBO and have been using successfully for the past few years. These Custom Sales Forms use the QBO EZ Map Fields definitions for each field. My two Invoice forms rely on the use of the Shipping fields that previously were available on the Invoice data entry form in QBO.
What is the purpose of having the option to 'turn on' the Shipping option if the Shipping fields will not be provided? This error must be corrected and Shipping fields must be restored as it is essential data for most businesses and should not have been deleted.
Similarly, there are two additional fields ( <AcceptedDate>, <message> ) that were negatively impacted. Like the Shipping fields, the <AcceptedDate> field is no longer available on the data entry form. Also, the contents of the Message field on the data entry form no longer appears on Custom Sales forms that include the <message> field.
The response from SirielJeaB Moderator implied that creating new Custom Fields for all of these missing fields and updating all Customs Sales forms to use the custom fields will be required.
What is the purpose of deleting existing fields?
Should we expect additional field deletions in the future?
Ditto,
Get your stuff right before forcing everyone to move to a new platform.
Quickbooks acts like it doesn't even care. It just changes things and you have to change with it. Many of us small business owners don't have the time to learn new things everytime Quickbooks decides to change things up. Leave it like it was, it was fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
