Hi All,
Windows 10 Pro 21H2
Quickbooks Desktop 2021-R10P
I have a customer with M$ SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 installed. I can not find any program she is running that uses an SQL server. Does Quickbooks Desktop 2021-R10P use any of these?
Many thanks,
-T

Hi there, @ToddAndMargo.
It's my pleasure to provide some information about SQL servers.
Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft. As a database server, it is a software product with the primary function of storing and retrieving data as requested by other software applications.
With that said, I wanted to provide our system requirements help article that covers what QuickBooks does and does not support for you to reference.
Per our requirements, the SQL server is not supported. However, when using an SQL server, you can check with your IT professional for any additional information on connection concerns.
I'm always around to lend a hand. It's been great chatting with you. Take care!

QB Desktop runs on their own database platform.
QuickBooks Desktop 2021 does not use Microsoft SQL Server as its database system; it relies on a proprietary database technology based on Sybase. None of the versions of QuickBooks, including QuickBooks Desktop 2021, require Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, or 2014.
If you have these versions of SQL Server installed but cannot identify any programs that use them, it might be due to legacy systems or installations that were part of other software packages not currently in use. It’s important to track down why these are installed to ensure they are not unnecessarily consuming resources or posing security risks due to outdated software versions.
For integrating QuickBooks with SQL Server for data analysis or warehousing purposes, consider using third-party data integration tools like Skyvia. These can help you synchronize and manage data between QuickBooks and SQL Server, providing a bridge for data analysis without direct integration.
I recommend you look at a third-party integration tool like DBSync, which allows you to connect QBO/QBD to different databases.
