Switching from QB Desktop to QB online

Can anyone share their experience of switching from QB Desktop to QB online?

I looked at the online version and it seems completely different.

Have been working with Desktop for almost 18 years.

I'd love to know your thoughts before taking the plunge.

Thank you!

Any specific reason to consider migrating to QBO?

I don't recommend if you are a veteran QB Desktop user, unless you have some compelling reasons (e.g integrating to a certain 3rd party app).

Hi there, @janettelabella.

I've come to provide some details on how these platforms work.

For most small businesses, QuickBooks Online (QBO) will be the best option. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), on the other hand, is ideal for businesses that require advanced inventory management, job costing, or reporting tools.

Additionally, QBO is also significantly easier to learn and use. It works anywhere since it's cloud-based, as long as you have an internet connection. Mobile apps also help you manage your business on the go.

You can also check out this link for more info: QBO vs QBDT. Here are some articles that might help you decide to switch to QBO:

my boss says it will be easier and that our HQ will be able to access our info and that I would have fewer problems.   I'm not keen on it, based on my playing around with it.  I don't know why they make it so much different.

Thank you.  What, in particular, makes it easier to learn/use?

I got the help you need, janettelabella.

What makes QuickBooks Online (QBO) easy to use and learn is the fact that it's a cloud-based accounting product. Which means, you can access your account anytime anywhere as long as you have the internet connection. Also, the features of this is designed for small businesses.

Additionally, we have easy-to-access articles, webinars, and video tutorials that will help you in familiarizing the different tasks, features, and functions of QBO. Below are the following:

Of course, you're always welcome to visit us again if you need help while working with QuickBooks. It will be my pleasure. Stay safe and have a great day ahead!

@janettelabella

Is your boss one of the QB Desktop users?

What kind of problem did you encounter?

You can set up a simple private cloud at your premise and your head office will be able to access your QB Desktop files over the internet in multiuser mode if needed.

@janettelabella

If you're not already aware, Intuit employees try to sell QB Online as it generates more revenue for them.  As a user of both, QB Desktop is a FAR superior product IMO.  Intuit employees on this forum have referred to QB Online as QB Desktop 'Lite'.

QBox is an inexpensive way to share your QB Desktop company file between computers so users can have access from multiple locations.  I have no affiliation with them, I'm just a fan of the product.

so you're saying it's easier to learn, because it is cloud based?  How does that make it easier to learn?

yes, he uses it occasionally - mainly for reports.

I don't have many problems at all with the current quickbooks, although the customer service is not as good as it used to be - it used to be excellent; nowadays it seems hit or miss.

one of the problems seems to be that only one user can use QB desktop at a time - this never used to be the case and we don't know what is causing it - I think that may be one of the reason he is thinking of changing.

Thank you sooo much - it is so great to have an honest reply from someone who is not involved and trying to sell the product.  I appreciate it very much!

@janettelabella

This is just a leveling system for membership in the community. I see you are at Level 2 and the highest level is 15 that community members can reach with their valuable contributions.

If your management decision is final, you have no choice but to adapt to using QB Online. I'm not surprised you'll struggle to learn it later 8)

Hi Fiat.  We are not given muc of a choice.  The support ends for Desktop at the end of April unless you pay a lot for desktop.  Three or four times the amount we used to pay.  Plus third party apps are no longer supporting their api to desktop.  It is sad but it is happening.  I preferred desktop but moved on for ease of intergration and cost.
