Join nowAfter entering text in a description box (add inventory item), if we go back to edit text in that box before saving, the cursor advances an extra space after typing new characters. To explain, if the item description has been entered as "Car Part 456" and we return to that description to add "SKU 99" at the beginning of that text, the cursor jumps with each keystroke, e.g., "SCKaUr 9Pa9rt 456".
We have to save the original entry, close out the window then open it again to make any edits.
We upgraded our previous QB Mac Desktop 2016 to Mac Desktop 2021 in iOS Big Sur. The QBMac and the operating system are both up-to-date.
What on earth could be the problem--this didn't happen in the previous 2016 version, why is it happening in the 2021? Do we need to reinstall QB Mac 2021?
Hey there, @Dsunday.
There might be some minor data damage in your company file. This is the reason why your cursor advances an extra space after typing new characters when adding other details to your item description.
Since you've already done updating your operating system, let's try running the Verify and Rebuild Data tools in QuickBooks for Mac. This way, we can trace where might this issue is coming from and fix it.
Here's how to use the Verify tool to scan your company file for errors or data damage.
Once done, run the Rebuild tool in your company file to fix any errors or data damage that has been verified.
If you're still getting the same issue, reinstall QB for Mac using the clean install.
Please also take note that before you get started, make sure to backup your company file.
Since you're new to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021, I've added a link where you can see our User's Guide for this version. These resources will help you get familiar with the product navigation.
You're more than welcome to visit this thread again if need any other help with managing your sales transactions. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Stay safe.
Thank you so much for the reply! I followed these directions and though the "verify" and "rebuild" still returned some errors, the text box issue appears to be resolved. The question now becomes should we proceed to a "clean install" and how is that accomplished. I saved the error message (it's quite long) but not sure if I should provide that here or elsewhere...?
Thanks for coming back here, Dsunday.
We're glad to know that the text box issue was resolved after the Verify and Rebuild Data. The issue might have something to do with your company file and not in the software.
With regard to the clean install, you'll do this process if the Verify and Rebuild Data didn't work or if issue also impacts other companies. The Clean Install is a step by step procedure where you have to uninstall, rename the installation files, and reinstall the QuickBooks program to repair the damaged files. You can check out this article for more details: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.
In the meantime, I'd like to know what is the specific error message you're getting, so we can check for a solution
Please feel free to leave a reply below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Have a great day ahead.
