Tracking Mileage

I use QB Simple Start but was recently told by my tax advisor that I need to be using an app to track my mileage. Should I change my QB account to the Self-Employed so I can use that feature through the app or is there a way to track mileage through the Simple Start App without changing my QB account?

Tracking Mileage

Welcome to the Community, Breezy Pallet.

I'm here to share a few details about tracking mileage in both QuickBooks Online (QBO) and the Self-Employed (QBSE) version.

You can track miles in QBSE through a mobile device, and the system automatically does it for you with your phone's GPS. The app will detect the starting and stopping locations when driving for all of your trips.

To enable the Auto-tracking feature, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the QBSE mobile app.
  2. Click on the Mileage tab (iOS) or Menu icon and choose Mileage (Android).
  3. Move the Auto-tracking slider to the right to turn on the feature.

For more in-depth information about mileage tracking in QBSE, you can refer to these articles:

While QBO manually tracks mileage by setting up an employee as a vendor and entering a bill. You can check out this article to learn more about this: Track mileage in QBO.

That should do it. Let me know if you have additional questions by leaving a message below. I'll be around. Take care.
