Unable to print invoices

This problem started this week as far as I know.  I have researched this board and found a couple of answers but they DID NOT work.

I do bookkeeping for a general contractor, and some of the time I will remote in using Logmein.  That is working fine and is not the issue.

My client called me today and he was unable to print invoices.  In fact, when he tried to print an invoice it locked up QBDT (Pro 2019).  Again, was working last week.

I connected to his computer and check it out and it does lock up QBDT when trying to print invoices.  I can print reports from QBDT and the printer works without any issues outside of QBDT.  I am also unable to print to the XPS Writer and to the PDF Driver (from Acrobat).  BUT I am able to print invoices to my remote printer, the one in my office.  Also, windows is not affected, this is a QBDT problem, and when the print invoice locks up, it is only locking up QBDT.

In researching this problem, one solution suggested using Quickbooks Tool Hub to resolve the issue and I downloaded it, installed it, and ran it, but it did NOT solve the problem.  I worked through the rest of the steps but they started working on the XPS Writer and stopped talking about printer issues.

There was one option that talked about TEMP folders, but I could never get that step to correspond to the steps suggested.

I have not contacted QB Support yet, because it has been slow, and finding the right person can be challenging and getting through the red tape so they will talk to me (about my client's QB) is sometimes difficult.

Does anyone have any solution to this problem?

Thanks

EJ

Unable to print invoices

Hello, @GolfNut72.

Thank you for providing all the troubleshooting steps you've tried.

Since you can print the invoices from your computer remotely, I recommend having your client uninstall and reinstall their printer. This will refresh the connection between QuickBooks and the printer and the relationship between the printer and the computer.

After the reinstall, if QuickBooks is still locking up when trying to print invoices, you can request a callback from our QuickBooks Desktop Support team. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Get QuickBooks Help.
  2. Type Printer issue in the text box and click Let's Talk.
  3. Choose Get a callback and enter your contact information.

An agent will then be in touch with you shortly to assist you with the printing issue.

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions or concerns. Best wishes!

Unable to print invoices

Thank you.

I can request that the client reinstall the printer driver, but the printer is working within Quickbooks as it will print reports, but it won't print invoices.  I have not tried to print checks or anything else.

After we have tried that, if it does not resolve the issue, I will contact QB Support as you suggested.

Thank you

EJ

Unable to print invoices

Hi GolfNut72,

Not sure if you were able to get this resolved, but I just spent a decent amount of time trying to figure out a similar issue, so I thought I would share.

In our scenario, after June 2020 updates were applied to Windows 10, the splwow64.exe was getting hung up on the company logo for the custom invoice templates.  We modified the logo to a smaller size and changed it from a jpg to png, and that seemed to help.

Unable to print invoices

I have exactly the same problem  I think it started with the latest version of QB.   I just haven't needed to print an invoice for a couple of weeks.    I too tried the repair tool and it did not help.

I am unable to print or email an invoice, also unable to print to a pdf printer.

Thanks for letting us know in advanced that you've already tried the repair tool, ancastle.

Aside from using the Tool Hub and the repairing QuickBooks, let me share additional steps that can resolve PDF-related issues in QuickBooks.

First, manually rename the the QBPrint.QBP file. Here's how:

  1. Locate the QBPrint.qbp. file. If you're using Windows 10, 8.1, and 8, go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx (20xx represents the version of your QuickBooks.) For Server 2008 and Server 2012, proceed to C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks YEAR and C:\Users\**remote user**\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\ YEAR VERSION\TSPrinterSettings
  2. Right-click the QBprint.qbp file for your QuickBooks version and select Rename.
  3. Add the word "old" to the file name (i.e. QBPrint.qbp.old)
  4. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. From the File menu, select Printer Setup.
  6. Select any transaction in the Form Name list and select OK. This will create a new QBprint.qbp file. Note: You don't have to do this for every transaction.

Once done, open an invoice and try to email or print it to check if the issue is already resolved. You may also need to perform a Reinstall QuickBooks for Windows using a clean install just in case the issue persists.

Please keep us posted if you still need help with this. We're always here to make sure that we get this sorted out.

Unable to print invoices

We're an MSP and had a client with this exact issue.  It's definitely a template issue.  They had a logo as well.  If you test a built in, intuit template, it prints out just fine.  Our client was on Desktop Pro 2021 version.  Hope this helps someone.

The incognito browser fixed this issue for me.

Thank you!

Unable to print invoices

This fix worked for me I'm using Enterprise Desktop 2023. I was not able to print invoices or email, but as soon as I renamed the file, went to select printer, saved, I was able to print and email. Thank you so much for the help.

What file did you have to rename to get it to print.
