uncategorized income and expense

At some point in May 2020, I ran a verify that told me I had an error and had Uncategorized Income and Uncategorized Expense in an entry in 2017.  I found the entry and deleted the 2-line entries but when I closed and reopened QB--they came back.  My issue is that I don't have any Uncategorized Income and Expense entries.  I never download any banking transactions into my QB....so how did this happen and how do I fix it.  It doesn't affect my totals on my financials because it created a debit and credit entry that simply offset each other, but I want to get it out of there.  I ran a Rebuild, but it didn't correct the problem.  But, my Verify runs each day don't catch it any more...so what do I do?

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, LANDYRAY.

It sounds like you've fixed your uncategorized income and expense entry which caused the initial error that our Verify Data feature identified. You'd mentioned correcting this record by deleting the 2-line entries, then say it reappeared after closing and reopening QuickBooks, but you're also saying you don't have any uncategorized income and expense records visible right now. To confirm my understanding, what are you looking to accomplish?

I see you've performed another Verify and Rebuild Data without any issues being located. This displays the original issue has been resolved. If the debit and credit entries you did to fix the problems are removed, the same errors could start reappearing.

I'll be looking forward to hearing back. Have a great day!

I apologize for not being clear.  I DO still see the Uncategorized Income and Expense entries in January of 2017.  What I meant when I said that I don't have any uncategorized income and expenses is that every entry that is made is made manually by myself...so I shouldn't have any.  I'm not sure where or why QB made these 2-line entries in that year.  Also, I looked back on a file from April 30, 2020 and the entry was not there.  I looked at a file from May 13, 2020, and the entry is there...so QB made this entry between May 1 and May 13, 2020.  What would cause QB to think that this entry needed to be made and if deleting the 2-line entries doesn't permanently get rid of them, how do I resolve it?
