I've just recorded the deposit of the last open item in undeposited funds. This is a rare situation here, as we only reconcile deposits every few weeks, and there are always items remaining to be deposited later, but today I actually cleared it out completely - no undeposited items remain.
So I expected the balance of the "Undeposited Funds" account to be zero. But it's not... it shows a balance of $-171.73
What could have caused this, and how can I fix it?
I tried creating a journal entry to credit the balance to Misc Expense - that zeroed out the balance of the account, but also created a to-be-deposited item (of non-existent funds) that shows up when I open a deposit window, so that's no help.
Hi kyleknapp,
Let's run some troubleshooting steps to isolate this weird behavior.
The undeposited funds' account should be $0 since you already made a deposit. That said, you can perform some steps to identify if you're not experiencing some file issues. Here's how:
If the system prompts you with a specific error message, there may already be an article for it. Try searching for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site for instructions. If you see Your data has lost integrity, continue to rebuild the program to correct the problem. You can do this by selecting Rebuild Data under Utilities from the File menu.
Additionally, I'm adding this guide to help you ensure your QuickBooks account matches the real-life bank statement: Reconcile Workflow.
I'll be around whenever you have concerns about managing bank transactions.
I did the Verify, and then the Rebuild.
Yikes! It found 55 issues, and was unable to fix 27 of them...
What do I do now? I have no idea what these error messages mean, but I've copied them below:
