Join nowI am currently handling the books for a property rental company and the owners personal finances as well. He has QB Pro 2013 installed on his desktop and on his laptop. I basically just use the checkbook register to class income and expenses, reconcile bank statements and generate 1099's at year end. I then send to his CPA and they handle his tax returns. I am reaching out to see what options would be available to me if I were to purchase a newer version of QB Pro, and I would also want to install on my laptop as well. I am the only one who ever accesses QB on his devices, there are no other users involved. I am not interested in online versions of QB.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
TLP1961
You will need to install the trial license for QB Desktop 2015, 2019 and 2021 to upgrade your file gradually or purchase a 3rd party service to do so. Then you can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 or wait until they release QB Desktop 2023 next week.
Thank you for reaching the Community, @TLP1961.
I'm here to share information about upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
QBDT has a 3-year lifecycle, to avoid data issues due to some feature or version differences, create a backup copy of your file on your QBDT 2013. Then, restore it to QBDT 2015/2016 to 2018/2019, then QuickBooks 2021. Here's how to restore it:

I literally have same question I have QuickBooks 2013 Pro but my laptop soft operating software is corrupt. I’m going to buy a new laptop and want to add QuickBooks. I know the 2013 Pro won’t work with these new laptops. How can I upgrade to a simple desktop version, I mainly uses for just cash flow on one rental property and tracking expenses. Do not want a subscription based software what are my options ?
Starting fresh with a new device and software can be quite challenging, @Cortexan. Worry no more, because I'm here to share some information about the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version that suits your business needs.
All QBDT versions come with handy features to help you manage your cash flows, handle rental property transactions, and keep track of your business expenses.
The current versions, however, can be purchased through subscription-based. For other options you can avail, I highly recommend reaching out to our Sales team. Here's how:
After that, you can proceed to download and install it on your new laptop. Next, update your company file so you can use it on your new QBDT, check out this article: Updating your company files to match the new QBDT version.
