Upgrade to newest quickbooks for remote hosting

You should purchase a new subscription (monthly/yearly) separately and host it at RN or another provider. You can buy the license through partners and get perpetual renewal discounts up to 20% off.

But the question is, does he/she have to? Will RN allow a previous version (still supported by QB) to be hosted?

Technically after 3 years, your access to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services, Live Support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services will be discontinued. Within that 3 years, just make sure to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes by updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
