Upgraded from pro 2019 to pro plus 2022 and updated file. Now when opening company file on server computer only get a unrecoverable error. After talking with customer service and trying the QuickBooks tool hub repairs and everything the agent could think of it still doesn't work. Was escalated to data services and told 3 to 5 days then 5 to 7 days for response. In the mean time I did some more research and found how to suppress the desktop when opening QuickBooks. After doing that it now works. My Question is what does that do and now that it works is it fixed? I contacted an agent and they suggested I wait until the data services team responds but I can not go 5 to 7 days without billing software. Any Ideas?
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @clarksdiesel. I’ll be happy to share some details about the unrecoverable error you encountered in QuickBooks Desktop.
I appreciate the troubleshooting actions you’ve tried to isolate the issue. Meanwhile, these unrecoverable errors are due to various reasons, but the most common are missing Windows or QuickBooks updates, data damage, computer issues, or program code that needs repairing.
Also, I recommend waiting for the updates from the data and services before taking further action on this error.

Thank you for the reply. The link you posted is the one I used to suppress the desktop. So what does suppressing the desktop actually do? I can not simply wait for the data team that takes 5 to 7 business days as I have a Business to run and employees who depend on it. I find it very frustrating that quickbooks is ok with telling their customers to wait 5 to 7 business days to fix a problem that was created by them. Thank You
Hi there, @clarkdiesel.
I'll share some information about what will happen if you suppress your QuickBooks Desktop. If the issue is with the QuickBooks Desktop application itself, this step will isolate it. To begin, here's how:
You can refer to this page for more information about how to fix QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

You can purchase a 3rd party file repair service to speed up the process if required, including weekends.
This is crap unacceptable. I've spent hours today on the phone with Intuit just to be told it will be 3 - 5 business days. I have a business to run and payroll to do tomorrow. And to top it off, they refused to let me speak with a supervisor. Soooo unprofessional!!!!!!
I have tried everything posted here. My unrecoverable error number is not in the list. I spent hours on the phone with Intuit today and was refused speaking to a supervisor. I also have a business to run and payroll tomorrow. Intuit has become unprofessional and the service is unacceptable. 3 - 5 business day. I am so disillusioned after using QuickBooks for 25 years.

It took them 8 days to call me back and then basically said if suppressing the desktop worked then that's great. I agree total BS. Its too bad that it didn't work for you. Hopefully they get back to you sooner.
Shouldn't have to purchase anything additional. Intuit has gone just like every other major company and no longer are customer oriented.
Hi clarksdiesel,
I can see how inconvenient it is to encounter issues while working on the file.
I'll share with our Communication team your experience on why it took several days to get in touch with you.
I've also added this reference for some tips in managing your QuickBooks Desktop program: QuickBooks Desktop Q & A.
It isn't the kind of experience we want you to come across, clarksdiesel. Don't hesitate to get back to us if you have other concerns. I'll be sure that it gets taken care of.
I am having the exact same problem. After somehow solving it myself last time I did payroll, it worked until today. My computer updated last night and when I tried opening quickbooks Pro Plus 2022 this morning, it isn't opening again.
I keep getting an Unrecoverable Error. Code: 1407098317 86385
I should have kept notes on how I solved it the first time.
Dammit! I have to do payroll...
What is going on?!?
I have had the same experience. Started experiencing this problem with QB2019. Upgraded to QB2022 in March hoping it would fix it. Today I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Level 1 tech support. After 2.5 hours I was told they were sending me an email with troubleshooting procedures (the same procedures we already went through.) When I asked if I could pay for someone to look at my data file I was told that service wasn't available.
I continued to research on the Community Board and came across this article/step that solved the problem for me. Just updating my Preference file to tell the system NOT TO SAVE THE DESKTOP on closing, solved the problem. Give this a try, and here is the link. What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop (intuit.com)
If you have a large report or several windows set to open automatically, it can freeze QuickBooks when it starts on startup. To prevent them from opening:
Note: If QuickBooks asks you to log in, enter your password. Then press and hold ALT and then select OK. |
Once you open your company file, turn off the save when closing feature:
Good luck all.
I'm so sad to read all these, as I'm now having same issues. Made backups, went on 10 day vaca, came home and neither company file will open. And neither backup would restore. One of my older backups did restore for one of the companies, but the screen continues to lock up upon opening with Unrecov Error message. Wish I could go back to my old 2015 desktop version. Anyone have a permanent fix to this yet?? And what exactly does "suppressing" the desktop mean? I don't want to screw up anything worse than it already is.
I'm determined to help you restore your file, JDBookkeeping.
Suppressing QuickBooks helps us determine if the issue is the program or your company file.
If you haven't suppressed the application, I'd recommend following these steps:

I'd appreciate it if you'll update us about the troubleshooting process. We want to make sure you can work on your books again.
