When returning goods to a supplier for a refund on my debit card do I take a photo of the refund receipt the same as when buying something?

Hi there, ncjones21@gmail.

I'd like to share some insights about creating a refund for your suppliers  in QuickBooks Online.

When issuing a refund to your supplier, taking a photo of the refund receipt is no longer necessary. Instead, you'll need to record this transaction in QuickBooks Online so it will match the data on your bank account.

Tracking the refund comes in three easy steps. These are the following:

  • Entering a vendor credit.
  • Depositing the money you got from the refund.
  • Using Pay Bills to connect the bank deposit to the vendor credit.

Here's a link that will give you the complete details on how to perform this procedure: Learn how to record a refund from a vendor in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding here some resources that will give you more information about categorizing and matching your bank transactions together with attaching receipts in QBO:

Thanks for getting back to us, ncjones21@gmail..

If you prefer to take a photo of the return receipt from the vendor, then you can do it. Just make sure to record the refund in QuickBooks Online (QBO) so it will match the data on your bank account.

You can follow the steps shared by my colleague above or refer to this article for further guidance: Enter a refund from a vendor.
