Why were invoices not generated for recurring payments?

I was prompted in QuickBooks to change all my Recurring Invoices with Autpay to Recurring Payments. Now payment is being collected, but there are no invoices or payments recorded in their accounts so I have no payment record. Clients want their invoices!

Why were invoices not generated for recurring payments?

Thank you for reaching out and bringing this issue to our attention. I understand how essential it is to have accurate and timely invoicing for you and your clients, lpblue.  I'm here to share some information to clear things up.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), invoices are crucial for tracking customer sales and collecting payments. When you set up an invoice with auto-pay, QBO automatically processes payments from the customer on the scheduled date, ensuring seamless transaction management.

To maintain this efficiency and accuracy in your financial records, we recommend using Recurring Invoices with Autopay. This setup not only automates payment collection but also ensures that each transaction is accompanied by a corresponding invoice, which is automatically recorded in your QBO account.

Here is how you can set up a recurring invoice with autopay in QBO:

  1. Create an invoice, then select Make recurring, or you can create a recurring template.
  2. Navigate to Interval and specify how often the invoice should recur. Note: Autopay isn't available for recurring invoices with a Daily interval or for amounts over $5,000.
  3. Enter the start and end date of the recurring invoice.
  4. Complete the remaining invoice details, then select Save template.

However, if you already have a recurring invoice setup, you don’t need to create a new one. Your customers can utilize the Autopay feature, by using the payment methods you've chosen on your invoice. Autopay is compatible with both card and ACH transactions.
