Account Numbers

When I enter a transaction such as a check, credit card charge etc you of course have to tell the computer which account # to select.  When I set up QB Mac the numbers showed up in numeric order (my accounts are numbered).  Subsequently they have moved out of numeric order and I have no idea how they are organized and it is difficult since I have to read through the list of my accounts to find the account # I want the transaction to be charged to.  I have noticed they are by category such as Bank Accounts, Credit Cards etc but that doesn't help much, I would like them in Account # order.  Any ideas?

Account Numbers

Good day, Eddie21.

I'd like to share some steps to help you.

The account numbering option might have been turned off in the preferences. Let's make sure it is set up by following these steps:

  1. Go to QuickBooks > Preferences and then select Transactions.
  2. Put a check mark on the Use account number box.
  3. (Optional) Select the Show lowest subaccount only check box. This option shows you only the account you are working with when entering transactions.
  4. Click OK once done.

Once done, to sort the account by its numbers, just click the column title or header in the Chart of Accounts window. Here's a sample screenshot to see what it looks like:

I'm also adding this article as a guide if you want to make some changes on the numbers: Add, edit, or delete accounts in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please let me know how it goes. I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Take care!
