Backorder in invoicing

Does QB track backorder items from invoicing?  (i.e. I sell 100 but only have 50 available, does the invoice reflect the backorder somehow) and these would be non-inventory items...

Other programs have qty sold & qty backorder to fill in when inputing invoicing (might print as separate backordered items in the body of the invoice to customer) - so customer knows that there are item on backorder.

Backorder in invoicing

Good day, lwin2211.

A non-inventory item is purchased or sold but whose quantity is not tracked. Backorder tracking for these items is unavailable.

You can always visit our website to know more about QuickBooks for Mac features: https://qblittlesquare.com/.

Let me know if you have other concerns. We'll be here to help you.

In Mac QB I am not sure, if Mac has Sales Orders then it also might have sales order fulfillment which can be used that way = those two functions are present in QB Win premier and enterprise.

And what makes it worse IMO is that QB will only warn you that there is not enough on hand to sell, but will not prevent you from selling what you do not have on hand. (the high $ win enterprise did come out with a preference setting for this)

You have to manually track that you were not able to fulfill the order.

Make an Estimate and list the 100 here.

When you realize you only fulfilled 50, update that estimate and Split the entry into Two Lines. Put in the Description for the one line that is was fulfilled. Or, just edit the 100 to be 50. The estimate being changed doesn't hurt anything.

On their invoice, in the description, append some text to let them know "50 on backorder, expected delivery XXXX."

QB for Mac does not handle backorder tracking for Customer sales.
