Customer Name not allowed to be edited on the invoice

We bill attorneys offices "entered as our customers" for the patients we see in office. (as we have to keep track of which patients are under which attorneys) However, the attorneys do not want their names or addresses listed on the invoice anywhere, therefore we have always edited the "Bill To" window to show the patients name instead of the attorneys. It's never been a problem. All of a sudden this week, when i go to edit the Bill To window, it lets me remove the attorney name and enter the patients name, however when i hit save.. it shows the attorney name is automatically added back right above the patients name. This is a huge problem and will cause us to have to find another billing system if it's not corrected. How do i fix that? Help Please.

Customer Name not allowed to be edited on the invoice

You've come to the right place, Bre1208. It's my priority to ensure this gets resolved.

The billing address on the invoice always follows the information recorded on the Customer Information page. You can update the address displayed on a specific invoice. However, other customer info will still show on the Billing Address field.

Let's make sure the billing information is updated on the customer's profile. This way, the correct details will show on the invoices without editing them. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select Customers.
  2. For the new interface, click Get paid & pay, then Customers.
  3. Click the customer's name, then Edit.
  4. Update the Address tab, then Save.

For more details, please see this article: Edit Customer Information.

If the issue persists after editing the details, I'd recommend logging in to your QuickBooks Online account via a private window. This is a good place to determine if this is a browser-related issue.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Once signed, check if the correct details show on the invoice. If it does, let's clear the browser's cache. This removes the stored cache to ensure the program performs efficiently.

If private browsing doesn't work, you can use other supported browsers. They also provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

Customer Name not allowed to be edited on the invoice

Thank you for your response, .. but I think your not understanding what i was asking.. I know how to update the customer address etc.. however in the Bill To, they do not want the customer information and instead the patient name "which is going to be different on each invoice for that customer"... we have been able to do this for years with no problem but as of yesterday something changed in the software and it wasn't working correctly.  Regardless i think it was a Quickbooks glitch because as of this morning Quickbooks has fixed it.  Thanks so much for responding.
