debit card

My customers want to use their card as a credit (no pin) but the POS pad is reading it as debit and requiring a pin. Using POS 19 they do not seem to be able to bypass the pin to run as credit. I need to be able to use the card the way the customer wants. What can I do?

Thanks for sharing your concern with us, normPT.

Issues with POS reading can be fixed by performing a clean install of your QuickBooks Point of Sale. Before doing so, please take note of the following things to consider:

  • Secure a backup copy of your data file.
  • Have your QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale download file or your installation CD.
  • Have your License and Product Numbers are available.
  • Sign in as Windows Administrator before performing the next steps.
  • The computers you will be working on are available to be restarted.

The first step is to uninstall QuickBooks Point of Sale. Below are the instructions on how to do it:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows + R to open the Run window.
  2. Enter “Control Panel”, then select OK.
  3. Select Programs and Features.
Note: If the Control Panel is in Category View, select Uninstall a Program.
  4. In the list of programs, select QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 18.0, then select Uninstall/Change.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the process.

Next is to rename all Point of Sale folders. If you uninstalled it from the server computer, copy the Point of Sale data folder and paste it to the Desktop. As a suggestion, add 'OLD' at the end of the folder name to prevent the software from recognizing the folder.

Folder locations

  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8
  • C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 18.0

Delete the QBPOSDBSrvUser Windows user

  1. Select Windows Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Select User Accounts and choose Manage another account.
  3. In the User Account Control window, select Continue.
  4. Select QBPOSDBSrvUser and select Delete the account.
  5. Confirm the folder has been deleted.
  6. Restart your computer.

Then, you can reinstall Point of Sale. This article will guide you on how to reinstall the program: Install QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.

Finally, you restore your company file by following the steps below:

  1. Open QuickBooks Point of Sale, and create a new company file with the name you want to use.
  2. Restore the backup created.
  3. After the file is restored and you have verified it is the right set of data, verify you can close and reopen Point of Sale without errors, connect with other POS machines, and connect with QuickBooks Desktop (if applicable).
  4. Register QuickBooks Point of Sale again.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Point of Sale Support Team. They're equipped with tools to securely look into your account and check the main cause of this. Please click this link to reach out to our support: Contact Point of Sale Support.
