Are you making a charge to your cc?  If so, use a an expense transaction (New > Expense) and select your cc under 'Payment account'.  Under 'Category details', select the category that is the reason for the purchase.

How to enter credit card entry

There are different ways on entering a credit card transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Joe. I'll be happy to share them with you.

 

Beforehand, I'd like to verify what specific type of credit card entry you're trying to enter. Any extra information is much appreciated.

 

If you’re aiming to record credit card charges, you can create an Expense transaction. Here’s how to do that:

 

  1. On your QBO account, click the + New button in the left menu.
  2. Choose Expense.
  3. Enter the Payee name and select the Credit card used for the transaction from the Payment Account drop-down.
  4. Select the Credit card type under the Payment method drop-down list.
  5. Fill in the other necessary information.
  6. Once done, click on Save and Close.

 

If you're looking to record your credit card payments, follow these steps:

 

  1. On your QBO account, click the + New button in the left menu.
  2. Under Other column, select Pay down credit card.
  3. Select the credit card you made the payment to.
  4. Enter the Payee, Payment amount and Date of payment.
  5. Select the bank account you paid the credit card with.
  6. If you made a payment with a check, select I made a payment with a check. In the Check no. field, enter the check number, or if you paid electronically, enter the EFT number.
  7. If you want to add notes or file attachments, select Memo and Attachments section and follow the onscreen instructions.
  8. Select Save and Close.
